Bacteria Supplement

My friend gave me a bottle of Top Fin Bacteria Supplement and said it would speed up the nitrogen cycle in my new tank, does anyone have experience with this brand or just bacteria supplements in general?  Will it work?

There are many different kinds of conditioners containing beneficial bacteria. I haven't used this particular brand, but I can't see why you shouldn't try. Just don't think that this will cycle your tank immediately, because you still need to test for ammonia and nitrite during the cycle before adding fish.

hey,

as nossie said, these products dont cycle your tank right away but i find that they do help. when i upgrade my tank (decided to have a ug filter as well as a internal filter) the cycle start helped my bacteria form failry quickly (i do mean 2 weeks, as a normal cycle can take much longer) still test your water as normal though.

This is true, it won't cycle your tank straight away but will help a lot towards cycling quicker.
I do nor know this brand either, but I don't think there is so much difference. It contains the beneficial bacteria to speed up the nitrogen cycle.

Well, my favorite is API Stresszyme but my sister uses the Topfin and her tank cycled just fine.
What I like about stresszyme is that you don't have to refrigerate it.  Not sure about Topfin brand.  That is Petsmart's store brand.
Read the label good and directions for info on how to store it. Smiley

I changed from API Stresszyme to Stability from Seachem.  Wink
