Koi and goldfish in a tank together?

Currently i have a 30 gallon fish tank with 1 ryukin in it.  The ryukin is about 4 inches long. ... looking for some company for the ryukin.

Is it ok to put a koi in the same tank?

Short answer, NO. Koi are extremely aggressive and will harass your goldfish to no end. It will end up with shredded fins and a lot of stress.

Koi should only be placed in a pond, since they grow too too large for any normal fish-keeper's tank.

If you are prepared to test water weekly and get a bigger, higher-powered filter, you could possibly get another FANCY goldfish for him to be friends with.

Be prepared, though. If you get another, you will need a bigger tank within a few months.

well i would not recommend koi. but the other smaller gold fish are fine.i also have a 40 gallon and my 2 gold fish are between 3 and 4 inches and i also have an angel fish in the same tank with them and she is about 7 inches from top fin to bottom. they have been together for over a year now and they are fine.

I honestly wouldn't.  I'd get another ryukin so they can school together. Smiley  Koi, in addition to growing quite huge, also can get a number of nasty diseases that they can pass onto goldfish.  If you can't find a ryukin, go for an oranda or another egg-shaped fish.

Or... if you have a rather "small" tank, you could just go with a normal fantail, they don't grow as large as bigger varieties of goldfish. Although, I think it would be fine if you'd just get another ryukin. They should fit alright there (: But it could be good to upgrade the filter when they grow bigger. (Not that I know how big your current one is but...)
