Ryukin Goldfish ???
« on: May 01, 2010, 12:09:00 AM »

I have a beautifull 75 gal tank with 5 med ryukins in it. All my water quality is good,  I make frequent water changes and the temp is 72. My problem is one on the smaller ones gets constipated whenever it eats. Here is what I am feeding now.. a.m. soaked flakes either reg or veggie, p.m. sinking pellets. Once a week just shelled peas, also bloodworms as a treat on the weekends. I try to keep their diet as varied as I can. When the little one get's to the point he is floating upside down, I do a 24-48 hour fast. Afterwords he is fine untill he eats again, and it strats all over again. I do not have a hospital tank to put him into,, I have no room!! Any suggestions??? Thanks  Karen Huh

You cold try feeding some shelled peas to your fish once in a while! Simply buy a bag of natural, frozen peas thaw them and pop them out of their shells! This works to clean out the digestive tract of goldfish, and peas contain lots of fiber and are really nutritious (:

You might also want to consider changing the feeding schedule, the diet is fine, but if your fish tends to get constipated, you might be feeding too much at once! It's better to feed only small amounts about 3-5 times a day! Goldfish don't have any stomach to store the food in, and so it's very important to provide them with the nutrition they need often, and in small amounts (:
