Hi all,
I recently purchased this little fellow and have him in with my 3 playties. They all seem to get along great, but I'm not sure about putting him with my two orandas as this little guy is super fast and swims around at a much faster pace than my other two. He is very small right now and does well with the platyies and I hope in the near future to get a 40-55 gallon tank to move my two oranda's into and then move this smaller guy into my current 29 gall. which houses the two oranda's. When he is moved I would like to know what type everyone thinks he is so I may by the same type of companion.

That looks just like my baby pear scales! Only, this one seems to have beginning of a wen... that's amazing! You're so lucky to have found a crown pearl scale... Let's hope it stays...

Thanks to both of you. I'm rather leaning toward the Pearlscale (from what I've seen in the few books I own) but I just wasn't sure. I think the Pearlscale can have that little wren on their heads, yes??
I just found this on the internet, but I know this little fellow does not fall into the catagory of being slow. She/He is constantly moving.
I think I will name this one Dreamsicle.

Pearlscale Goldfish are very popular gold fish and are found in collectors tanks throughout the world. Their hardiness and ability to live in cold temperatures makes them ideal pets. However, like many of the egg-shaped goldfish, they are slow swimmers. These fish won't win any races, but if kept with other slow-moving varieties they should get plenty to eat and do well. Many of the elongated goldfish varieties like the the Common Goldfish, Comet Goldfish, the Shubunkin, are not really good companions for the Pearlscale Goldfish because they are fast swimmers and too competitive during feeding time.

Nossie, do you think I should leave him where he is for now with the platyies, or should I try him in with the oranda's to see how it works? He seems happy now but I wonder if he would be happier with his own type?

Oh yes, he is very eager and is the first one over the platyies. I think he would do fine with getting food, but he is REALLY fast all the time, constantly on the move, and my other two are not nearly as fast as this little one, so I guess that is my main worry that he will want to play (?) and the others may get upset by it.

That pearlscale is so cute!!

A crown pearlscale has two symmetric lobes ( fluid filled sacs) on top of its head.
A regular pearlscale has a single lobe or wen like an oranda but some don't have a wen at all.
It should have pearl like scales on its oval shape body. It should have a round golf ball shape belly and an up-right dorsal fin.
Your fish is very cute. You are lucky to have found such a treasure.
