I think with the air stones it also depends on the size/strength of the air flow. Because my spray bar faces the back of the tank and is mostly submerged, I found that having my two air stones, on either end of the tank and buried in gravel, makes a lot of surface movement at the top for gas exchange Smiley

But I agree with Nossie, they aren't necessary equipment at all, I only got mine originally, because the little tank I had before was having problems cycling, so I wanted to give it all the help I could give it. But now in the larger tank I just like the bubbles because they're pretty Grin

You could simply move your spray bar higher, but of course sometimes it's just not possible to move them around too much... Smiley

Well, I've never had a spray bar...dont know where to get them..or how to use them.

They're usually coming with external canister filters, that probably explains why you don't have one Tongue

With the glass lid in the way, my spray bar can't really go anywhere  Wink I find the air stones make up for it, so I'm not too worried Smiley

Caffuss what type of filter are you currently using? My spray bar -as Nossie has said- came with my external filter Smiley

most manufacturers supply spray bar kits; they are not expensive

Oh I'm going to get the Odyessa canester filter 500gph...for my 60 gallon..I will also have a power filter on it....would I really need a spray bar?
