Introducing a new Goldfish to my other one

I have a fair sized fish bowl that currently houses my small goldfish.
It is currently living with my friend's roommate goldfish that is bigger than it.
I'm taking my fish back and buying it a standard size fish bowl.
Since I don't want Lucky to get lonely I was thinking about buying him a companion.
I have a common goldfish and I'm not sure what size goldfish I should get or if I should get him a companion.
The bottom line is that I'm afraid that something will go wrong if I buy a fish to put in the same bowl as my Lucky but I don't want him to be lonely.
Can anyone give me advice?

Hi Sara,
I think your goldfish will be happier and more healthy alone than with another companion. The reason is that the dominant goldfish will often bully and chase the weaker one around when they are kept in a small container, which creates a lot of stress and make them vulnerable to different illnesses.

If I were you I would see if you could get a bigger tank. But the goldfish situation is a little tough. If he is little he might be able to cope with another, but it's easier to introduce them at the same time. But what do I know, I don't have goldfish yet! Hmm...
