Hi Jason,
Can you post a picture of your goldfish's tail or describe what the white spot looks like?
Is it fuzzy looking? Like a small ball of cotton?

Is it one spot or multiple white spots? If it's multiple spots that look like small grains of salt, then it could be ich disease. One way to treat it is to raise the temperature to around 81 - 82 degrees fahrenheit and add aquarium salt. Ich parasite cannot survive in this environment. You could also buy ich medication to treat the disease. This is assuming your fish has ich. If it's another disease the treatment could be different.
If it's just a white spot on a large section of the tail that looks like cotton in appearance , it could be a sign of a fungal infection.
