When I lost my first fish Penelope I cried for 3 days straight, I couldn't even stand to look at my other fish it made me too sad! My mom had gone to the store for me to grab some medication for her (which was NOT what she needed...she was suffering from nitrite poisoning, and yes I have lost many many fish due to bad water) and she passed before she could even get it (which was probably a good thing...meds + bad water = disaster). I called my mom to tell her not to get the meds and she couldn't understand me I was sobbing so much. It's hard to loose a fish. They become your friend. You wouldn't think it would hurt that much and people may think you're silly, but trust me it's ok to feel your grief for them. They deserve it well.

We burried her underneath our plumb tree; it was in full blossom at the time and looked quite romantic. Just talking about it makes me cry again! Cry

Maybe Penelope and Jenga will meet in Fish Heaven and become best friends! And when we get there we will see them swimming together and having fun

In fact, maybe ALL of our fish will swim in one giant school! And there will be no more disease like ich or poisons or painful deaths. They will get to enjoy their afterlife forever amung those of their kind.

hi, i am new to this site and i was wandering around and found this thread and unfortunatly i have my own sad new tale. in the last 3 weeks i have lost 2 of my beloved babies to some strange wen eating disease. crossing my fingers for the other three i am hospitalizing now just in case.

RIP my beautiful poppet, my second goldfish ever, i raised her from a 1 inch cheapy LPS little runt oranda that was sick at store i managed to save her and she grew to 6 1/2 inches.
and RIP Sparky my beautiful tri-color oranda such a little attention hog, had to be up front and the center of attention

And i would feel really guilty if i didnt show my sweet cutie patootie (patootie) the only other goldfish i have ever lost. i am pretty sure it was because he swallowed gravel. i now have no small gravel in my tanks soon to have no gravel in any of them.

and i pray this is last time i use the RIP thread or at least for a long time i am tired of people saying "but it was only a fish"

and to all on here who have lost one of thier beloved aquapuppies my heart goes out to you it is a horrible thing to lose one of our special aquatic babies.

But the disease looks pretty much like "hole in the head" it's a bacterial infection, so to make sure, you could buy some anti-bacterial medicated food and feed your other fish with it for a week or two

I hope none of us will have to use this thread much.

I have some sad news...I haven't been on in a few days, but my beloved Enchilada died a week or two ago by jumping out of the tank.

It happened to a few of my fish through the years... I remember a few guppies did it now and then and one of our big algae eaters :C (Forgot the name of the species)

Anyway, I thought I'd share the memory of our little Pliskin! He lived in a nice tank with two other fantails in my parents' house, and he died completely suddenly :C We had recently treated an outbreak of fin rot in the tank, and after the dosage was done, all fish were healthy, but little Pliskin died after a few weeks... He was so small! Sad

Hi thanks for mind words. Patootie was almost 5 inches when he died. He was a very happy fish. He recognized my voice just like a couple of his tankmates, as soon as I would speak in morning he would swim close to my voice. Right before he died he developed a horrible habit of sucking on gravel for long time playing with it in his mouth. I am almost positive in end he swallowed one. I was going to remove the gravel that night. I always feel if I had made time to do it that morning he would still be here.

Sorry for the loss of your little enchilada.

I am so nervous. Went out of town to moms for thanksgivig for few days. Left the auto feeders I just bought on but scared I am going to come home to a loss. Cross yours fingers or pray or whatever else you can think of. I will get home tonight before 10 pm

Don't be nervous, aimee! Most likely your fish should be fine!

A friend of mine went out of town for Thanksgiving as well, and bought her goldie an auto feeder too. She went home to find her fish happy, healthy, and well fed.

Funny how goldies can hear the vibrations made by our voice. This may sound ridiculous, but whenever I clean the tank I always try to be super quiet and not bump into anything for fear of hurting their little "ears". They are so sensitive to the slightest noise, and some noises I think they enjoy! That's why I always leave the radio on whenever I leave the house Grin
