i was just wondering i was at a pet store to buy some new fish for my my new fish pond i bought 2 back moors 2 shubunkin s 1 fantail and  a common goldfish from my old pond and 4 (including the one i got for my sister) so called "comets" the man at the pet store said that comets and commons are identical i live in Australia so maybe it's just a nickname for common goldfish. i know that comets are thinner and have longer tails but the orange one (gobbles) looks more like a common than anything but torpedo my sisters one(yellow and white) looks a bit more comet like but i just wanted to be 100% sure Smiley Wink

comets/calicos /commons/Gibels are the same fish. They are all common goldfish BUT people like to distinguish on a colour basis.

sorry about the post on the  goggles been upside down before i posted it i made a mistake post and the pictures are upside how but i fixed that and i didn't know how to delete a post. so comets are basically the same as the commons and gibels. i never kne that they were the same breed so thanks for the info Wink

The orange one appears to be a common goldfish, the other two are comets. Smiley Pretty fish.

well you're right about that Smiley but the white one was named "shubunkin" and they might be cross shubunkin/comet cross-breed Wink but the pet stores are not always 100% accurate Wink

A comet is  just a common but with a colour variation. Specific variants get specific names, for instance Shubunkin.  (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)

i thought commons were stockier with shorter tails and comets were more streamlined with longer bodies and longer tails, no?

I think their bodies are the same, just longer tails Smiley
So as scrivens mentioned, names are often to distinguish aesthetics differences!

I'm confused with Lucky as her tail is longer than a commons, but not as long as a comets Wink
