Question about lighting for aquarium

I purchased a 29 gallon tank from wal-mart a couple of weeks ago . I'm hoping to put some low light plants in it. Will they be able to survive under the light that originally came with the aquarium or do i need to go out and purchase another light? I don't remember the exact watts on the light bulb. And also what is the best type of light bulb for growing aquarium plants.

Hoods often do not put out enough "lums." I had a hard time with some plants until I got rid of the plastic hood and got a clear glass cover with TWO strip lights.
They make a daylight bulb that will also help. That plus a grow light will often do the trick. You should also leave them on 12 hours a day too.
Low light plants you MIGHT be able to get away with are sometimes sold as mystery bulbs. Cryptocryne are usually what you should get, and they are a very low light plant.
Not much else will make it until you get more light for the aquarium.
