What type of golsfish is this?
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:25:55 PM »

Over the years my children have been in and out of fish keeping. At the end of the fad I have put the remaining goldfish (commons and comets) into my pond which has long tail perch in it. Through a dry spell the water level droped to reviel a bronze goldfish, many of them. I caugth a few and introduced them to some koi and other goldfish I have. Is it possable that a hybrid has happened? One of the hybrids is 95% bronze with 5% red pigment on one side. Please have a look at the photos and remark. Thanks

Hi Paul,

only lookig at the shape, it is the same like our comets.

Did he live more in the dark? He may change the colour like Youkou. He was a lemon colour changed now back to orange.

Go to "Goldfish Types" in this forum and read the story about Fleabies yellow ruyikin. You will love it and it may give you more info too.

In case your fish have been breeding in the pond, it might be offspring that simply didn't develop the red color that goldfish are known for. Because the color looks much like the bronze younger goldfish have before they turn red (or whatever color they're supposed to have). Considering their body shape, which is a perfect shape of a comet, it's probably as simple as that (:

I agree that it's probably a comet also.  Although hybridization do occur, it probably doesn't happen too often.

Our comet, Sunshine, is also a lovely lemon color. He's always been like that, and he's a fairly healthy guy.
