Anybody got a good way to clean a filter tube? I can never get the U bend tube cleaned or the very end of the intake tube. >.<;

I think you can buy a set of brushes to clean things? Although I'm sure the others here will have some suggestions  Wink

Oh also, I was looking up the requirements for single tailed goldfish (as we are pretty much in the same boat!) -

Common Goldfish:
40 gallons (48 US gallons, 180 litres) for the first fish with an extra 12 gallons (14 US gallons, 55 litres) for each extra fish. The tank needs to have a minimum length of 4 feet (120cm) to allow swimming room. Single tail goldfish are more suited to a pond when they are near full size to give them swimming room.

I thought it might help you out  Smiley As you could possibly try and get a 76 gallon, in that dollar per gallon sale, that way you could just save up an extra $36 dollars, rather than spend $40 on the tank now and then have to spend a further $75 later on to upgrade.

Of course, it's up to you, you know what you have space for, I just thought I'd suggest it  Smiley

I recently got some brushes that are sort of bendable, and I cleaned out the tubes of my external filter with those Smiley
They looked something like this:

Skwishee: You do realize that her parents barely allow a 40 gallon tank in their house? Undecided Besides, it's pretty hard to afford a tank as big as 76 gallons while you're on your own in your own place with your job and money. The goldfish won't be suffering in a 40 gallon tank either.

It's o.k. Squish, I appreciate the suggestions, but Nossie is right on both counts. :/ Unfortunate but true. 40 is alot more possible that a 75 at this point.

Do you think they would have some brushes like that at PetCo or PetSmart?

I had a problem with power heads becoming gunged up and I solved it by using pipe-cleaners ( the sort you get at the tobacconists)

I bought mine at the "usual" pet shop over here, so I'm sure it'll be available there as well Smiley
However, the bristles will probably have various colors (mine are black), just so it'll be easier to search without getting locked on a certain appearance of the product Smiley

Skwishee: I know it's very exciting imagining all those HUGE tanks you might be having in the future, when I started thinking of bigger tanks, my mind went from 40 liters to 1000! Lately I realized that drifting around saying "I'm gonna get a 1000 liter tank later Cheesy" was a pretty impossible thought xD It's better to think in a sort of smaller scale, that way it's easy to avoid disappointment Smiley And I'm perfectly happy with the 300 liter, which is but a fraction of my initial plans Smiley

Yeah I know... I get a little carried away with myself sometimes >.<
I've been having issues with tanks and cannot decide whether I should just jump the tank ship and get a pond... or find someone that has a pond  Undecided But I'm hoping maybe I can do a pond on a budget!

You should see the 1300 litre pond I've been drooling over.... however my day dreams and reality aren't getting on so well at the moment  Cheesy

A friend of mine has three ponds and roughly a million tanks xD It's not impossible at a later date Wink

My parents have two wild life ponds in the back garden... It makes me wish I owned this house, so I could build a pond... there's space next to the patio and everything XD

I remember one summer, my mum just randomly decided another pond would be a nice idea (she had probably given it thought and spoken to my dad, but being out of the loop it just seemed rather spontaneous). So off we went to dig it out! If only I could be so spontaneous!

Oddly enough the frogs migrated from the existing pond to the new one for a while XD I think they go between both, but prefer the newer one because it has less plants. Ahh I miss those ponds... One winter I remember parts of the top froze and were thick enough for me to stand on (I was only 7 or 8 at the time), then of course another time it wasn't so thick, I was standing near the pond, slipped and my foot went straight through the ice and into the pond  Cheesy That must have been a site for the animals in the water!

I'm going to stop rambling about ponds now.....
