Marimo balls and goldfish

Well I succumbed to temptation and bought 2 marimo balls and they came today. I have them soaking in some clean water right now but I wonder if they need to be quarantined before we put them in the tanks? And for how long?
Also, what is your experience with marimo and goldfish and minnows?

I think it might be a good idea to keep the balls quarantined for a week Smiley Just to make sure no parasites come out of there!

I don't personally have experience with it, but I've seen people that have marimo balls in goldfish setups. Don't know if the goldies eat them or not Wink I would be interested in trying as well, so let me know how it goes down the road Smiley

Sure, I will. There seems to be a lot of different opinions on them so maybe it will come down to how individual fish behave. I have them in qt, they seem to be clean and nice looking.

Yes we got them. Love Hairy and Larry. BUT Sebastian chomped a big hole in Hairy, so out they went and we put them in the ten gallon. When we do a treatment we put them in a vase filled with tank water.

So now I'm sort of like, do we just put Hairy back in the big tank and let him have the moss ball or do I keep it away from him? The minnows were fine with them. But he is big enough now where he will try and eat any plant that's in the tank. That's kind of sad, because I love the idea of having plants in it, too.

Hmmmm, I was thinking about getting some because I really like the look of them but I have a java fern, might just keep that instead! Smiley

Maybe try it out and see what happens? you can always take them out again, worth a try? What cute names by the way!  Grin

I probably will try it again. Some goldfish don't seem to like them and some will eat them. I think it just depends on the goldfish.
