Measuring a goldfish

Hello,
When you measure a goldfish do you measure it from its mouth to the end of its tail, or from its mouth to the start of its tail?
I was just wondering because I was reading how big different types of goldfish can grow and wasn't sure if that included the length of the tail or not.
A bit of a silly question lol but I thought someone on here might know the answer Smiley

But to be honest I'm not quite sure, but I'd vote for the body length without tail  Wink  Huh

It's usually measured from nose to caudal peduncle. I think I read that somewhere! Cheesy And it's usually mentioned "tail included" or something whenever measuring the tail. But it's usually not done that way since the length of the tail varies so much from fish to fish! Especially among the fancy varieties of goldfish Smiley

Thank you all for posting this thread haha I had always wondered about that. I measure my fish from the nose to the caudial penduncle..had always wondered if I was doing it right or not. Tail length does play a big role and can many times make a fish seem bigger than it actually is...if I measured the tail of my 1/2 inch long fantail he would be a whopping 2 1/2 inches long even though he is teeny.
