My boyfriend won a ranchu and Ken stated it was 3+ inches but then when my boyfriend asked how big he was he was told he was the size of a grape.  We decided not to get it because I was afraid of bringing him into my uncycled tank.

Huh! well thought you were outbid on everything?
Oh well, you could have put him in your 5 gallon if he was that small until you got your tank cycled.
Just as well probably, because you would have paid alot in shipping for just one fish...hardly worth it when Ken will ship up to 6 fish for one price shipping. Smiley

I was outbid, but then he decided to bid again. He really wanted to get me the fish. Yeah, I thought his shipping fee was a little steep for a teeny tiny little gold-nugget.  Tongue. I finally got the 5 and the 60 gallon cycled. Yippee!!!

They are doing fantastic!!! Smiley
Their adjustment period was much shorter than I thought it would be!!
They are all so cute, but Egbert stole my heart.
He's such a jolly, happy-go-lucky fellow!!
As you can seein the pictures, from his breeding tubercles on his gill plates and pectoral fins he is looking for a girl friend! LOL! Wink

Wow I just realised that Egbert has no dorsal fin :/

And now I am also realising that neither do ranchus or lionchus! Lol.
What is the purpose of a dorsal fin?

It's pretty much used for steering... since dorsalless fish are a little slower and clumsier Smiley I really don't know much more about it Tongue Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks Smiley

Well not having a dorsal fin doesn't slow Egbert down!! Smiley
He's as fast as some of my commons.
Eggfish are dorsaless and they have a fantail, but they are more cigar shaped(longer body), kind of like a common and they do not have a wen. They are a very cool fish. Smiley  Like I said he reminds me of a dolphin.  He swims up and down and all around. He's so cute!! Wink

Egbert is an eggfish.
Very rare to find in the US....not many breeders here.
If you own an eggfish you are supposedly lucky!!! Smiley

I love Egbert Grin if I can get down to visit my friends in Ohio, I wonder if I could order one from the site you did and then get it delivered to their place while I'm there. I could bring a portable power source with me and run a small filter and airstone in a travel tank while driving back to Canada. We'd be home in less than a day. Must look into laws of transporting live animals across the border. All your new babies are so healthy and happy Minde!

April,
You should call Ken and see if he has an eggfish.
I don't know what the laws are but I think you can transport pets.
You could say your fish was your traveling companion!! LOL! Smiley
