Hi Pappy,
good info!
VTess,
It's so hard to tell without a picture.
can you post a picture of your fish?
For now I would add 1 tsp of aquarium salt to every gallon and add Melafix after a 25% water change.
Before you do, tho please test your tank water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH levels.

vtess: I'd change a bit more water before adding medication, unless you've already done this week's water change
About half. That way your water will stay good for longer so you won't have to disturb the medication with another water change.
"has SOMETHING growing from its side" isn't helping much, pictures, or even a little description of what it looks like would be good!

Does the growth look like a small bump? Slimy or rough?
In both cases, it COULD be a viral infection, untreatable, but it doesn't harm your fish, and is not spreading to the others
It's just giving him a tumor, completely harmless where it is. There are worse places of course for them to grow, but for now, I think it's alright

Ok download the pictures from your email and look at the bottom of a new post where it says "browse" and then find the pictures on your computer...hit open and then post.
If more than one picture, look under browse it will say "more attchments" click that and then fine the picture on your computer and hit open again...then hit post to post the message and the pictures should appear.
Don't worry if too big, itwil resize them on here.

fantailer: Fish won't get heart attacks unless you'll be feeding lots of fat meat, like ox heart too often. It'll lead to obesity and heart problems, just like in humans.
