Moving into a bigger tank

Hello folks I'm back.  I need your input.

First of all thank you for suggesting the briatlenose pleco.  He's been a wonderful addition and has cleaned my tank clean. 

I've expanded my goldfish family. I now have 4 goldfish. 2 very small new additions (pearlscale and ranchu) about 1 inch and 2 (including my original Bertie/ryukin and telescopic) who are 2.5 in body length.

Currently I'm in a 50 gallon. When I bought the 2 new fish I knew I would be upgrading into a big tank. I'm starting to plan for the upgrade.  But I'm not sure what would be the next size to move into....75 gallon? 90 gallon? 100 gallon?  I can't go beyond 100 due to size and the small size of my livingroom.

What would be the appropriate size for 4 goldfish, a pleco and snails? I'm confused on gallons per fish.  Some places say, 20 first, 10 for each additional. Others say 20 gallons for each fish.  What is your opinion? 

I guess I've been bitten by the hobby.  I do believe i have multiple tank syndrome. I'm having a blast and really enjoy the fishes.  Thanks for all your help.

One rule I've seen is 100 litres/26 gallons for the first fish and then 60 litres/15 gallons for each additional fish.
So with this rule anything over 300 litres/80 US Gallons.

With the 20 gallons and then 10 gallons for each, you'd end up with around 50 Gallons which is under 200 litres, in my opinion really not enough for how much these guys can grow  Grin

Great.  Thanks for the info.  I want to get it right for the gang. 

Another question: I've spotted a used 125 gallon tank with stand.  My friend told me it might be too heavy to even pick up and get into the house.  How did you folks deal with moving these large tank?

Well my tank certainly isn't that large  Grin I would imagine lots of people to help carry it? 125 gallons is quite the beast of a tank Cheesy

I agree. The stand and tank are $250. Excellent price.  I need to measure my livingroom and see if it fits.  But it's a nice long tank and I imagine that the goldfish would love it.  Then transporting it - is my biggest concern.

How's your fish? Is she growing? Any closer to building a pond?

Ah thanks for asking! Lucky is still a midget, she is just about 4 inches now though Cheesy

Having to move again next Summer, pond dreams are all at a halt, I'm really not sure I can have one, especially if my partner and I wanted to live some where small or in a flat, it's a lot to try and haul a 6 foot wooden pond around with me, constantly needing a garden (which means a lot of money in rent!).

For the time being I'm going to see how big she is by next Summer when it comes to moving, might move her to a pond then, I know someone near me who takes in rescue fish, so I know they could possibly take her for me. But it all depends on how big she is and if they had suitable housing for a little fish  Smiley

Saja could you possibly hire a van to transport the tank?

Sorry to hear luck hasn't grown much...but she's a very lucky fish (no pun intended) to have you caring for her.  You care enough to have a plan of action for her.

I would have to rent a van to move the tank.  I drive a mini cooper...can you imagine a mini driving down the road with a fish tank hanging out the back. Tongue Shocked

Haha sounds like something Mr Bean would attempt! He is a comedic character who does pretty crazy stunts with a very small car, like this one-

Ha ha. OMG. That's too funny.  Yeah that's me...except its a fish tank.  Thanks for the great laugh. Ha ha ha.
