upside down & bloated

About a month ago this pearlscale nearly died. I moved it and whizzed it around in the water until he recovered somewhat. The other fish acted oxygen deprived. This happened after my small outdoor pond had received a lot of rain. I removed about two-thirds of the water and added new. Everything returned to normal except this one. Now it hangs upside down on the bottom. It has increased in size by at least a third. Every day I think it's a goner but it just keeps hanging there. Oh my.... it's breaking my heart. Any suggestions?

Hi,
It's sad reading your description about your beloved goldfish. It looks like a very beautiful pearlscale from the picture. Organ failure can sometimes cause a goldfish to bloat up like that. If that's the case , i'm not sure there is much that can be done for it.
One thing you can try is to take it to an aquatic veterinarian (not a cat/dog vet). Maybe one these professionals will have a way to save it. Here's a website that lists aquatic vets in your area.

I hope your fish will get better.

Thank you for the tip. Thank you for understanding how a person can care about a fish. I've had this fish for about 4 years.

The calico pearlscale died this morning and was buried at the foot of a red rose bush. I said goodbye to "Callie" and I know she is not in an ill body any more.
Next spring she will bloom and so, life goes on.
