i recently set up a trop tank with 5 guppies,,2 mollies and 2 platys, and 3 lemon tetras,,iv had them 2 weeks but 1 of the platys hides until feeding time,,well tonight i noticed quite a few white spots on it so i quickly quarintined it to a smaller tank(i took water from my main tank for the smaller tank) so thats sorted but i also have a 3inch pleco in the main tank,,can i use white spot treatment just to be safe with my main tank. THE TANK IS CYCLED AND I ALSO TESTED THE WATER AND ALL IS GOOD. any help would be good. thanks

Well white spot is generally caused by extreme changes in water, not necessarily bad water quality. I am not an expert on white spot as I have never had a fish with it. But has there been a change in water as in temperature? New fish? New plants?
You're going to have treat this as soon as possible so I hope you have already gotten stuff and have started treating your tank as pleco's don't have normal scales as I'm sure you know
So any skin diseases will affect them much worse than other fish and it will often lead to death.
Do some research on white spot, go ask your local fish/pet shop to see what white spot treatment they have and I would recommend you join a tropical fish forum. Though we are more than happy to help, this is a goldfish forum and we only know so much about tropical fish. As maybe how you treat pleco's is different to how you treat goldfish if you know what I mean. Plus I bet there is plenty of experts on pleco's on the internet who could help you

Could be that some of your fish had simply brought it with them when you bought them!
So, you shouldn't quarantine any sick fish, but treat the whole system with a dose of medical aquarium salt (about a 0.3% solution) and raise the temperature a few degrees
Remember to move any plants to safety, unless they're anubias or java fern.

How did you stock the tank?
Even if the water quality was spot on before you added your fish, if you added all at once the filtersystem is overloaded with the bio load.
White spot can develop because of a weak immune system, which again is caused by stress.
Platies, Mollies, Guppies, Tetras are all schoaling fish. If kept less than a shoal of 5-6 they don't feel safe and hide. This is what's wrong with your Platy too.

Salt is used as a treatment for most fish, so that's perfectly fine.

There is salt available especially for tropical fish, it is meant to improve the slime coat. To be used according to the instructions, depending on the size of your tank

Oh of course
But a person could get confused and go mad looking for a medication when their country doesn't stock it, so sometimes I think it is better to say go to your local pet shop and look for some medication for white spot. Not go here and buy this.

We've got some American ich tabs actually, in the pet shop
I forgot their names... xD Made by Jungle, anyway d:
But not all the medicines are available everywhere of course! So that should always be taken into consideration c:

) is not a disease but merely a symptom that is seen in many oral conditions, some benign and harmless and some serious. Although on most occasions, these white spots on tongue are asymptomatic in nature. The treatment of white spots on tongue will depend on the factor causing it. In case of pre-cancerous lesions, it is of utmost importance that the person stops the intake of tobacco completely. He must get the condition properly diagnosed though, to begin with, after which the doctor will mostly prescribe vitamin A supplements and ointments to apply on the lesion.
