Recovering fin rot will usually involve the edges of the fins turning black as a sign of healing. Once you see that, you will know the fish is at a turning point. You typically see new growth as well, which will come in clear and fill in the gashes/tears that happened as a result from the fin rot.

Thank you.  It helps but I am not seeing any black yet.  I think the tail is filling in with new clear growth, but I'm not sure.  Too soon to tell.

Both of my recently new fish (from February) have some fin rot, and I just treated them with Maracyn Two according to directions for 6 days.  After 6 days in the hospital tank I put them back into their normal tank again.  I don't think the fin rot is expanding any more, but I need more time before I can be certain.

I waited a long time for their fins to get better on their own, but one kept getting worse, and the other one just wasn't healing.

Yes, fin rot is a pretty tough thing go get rid of, and it typically doesn't go away on its own. The clear growth is a sure sign its getting better though. So good luck  Smiley

Oh good!  I was hoping that was a good sign.  It's so hard to tell.

There's so many things I'm still getting used to with my new filters, like rinsing the biomax and foam once a month.  I forgot to do that at first.  And the month seems to just fly by.

Sometimes when my babies get some nasty tears in their fins, they usually heal with a transparent kind of growth.
