How long can my small goldfish last with no food ?

Goldfish can actually go without feeding for about two weeks!
There is always algae growing and if you have live plants they will also nibble on those.

would of thought it would do more harm moving the fish to my mothers to be fed
and also been told the weekend/auto feeders are no good
only leaving it 3 days with no food

I agree with Hanna and Katherine- please feed your fishie!!!   They actually use those big weekend feeder cubes in pet stores and they work just fine.  I just can't bear to think of your poor little fishie being hungry and looking pathetically around the tank waiting for daddy/mommy to give them a snack!

Really Butt's fish will be fine as she is only going for a weekend.   I've left my fish for more than a week b-4 and they were all fine!  I tend not to want to use the feeder blocks either because of it polluting the tank.
I once rescued a goldfish, a few years ago that was in a tiny container, left at a school for a few months and had nothing to eat but the algae that was growing on the glass.  I took him home and threw him in my pond with my other goldfish and I still have him and he is fine.  There's probably even some other type of microrganisms growing in there that we can't even see.  After finding those red worms I really think there probably is food sources that we don't even know about growing in our tanks!

No, really. No need to worry for the fish! They will always find something to eat in the tank, plants or algae for instance! And I leave my fish here for a week or so at a time when going to my parents' place.
And a food block, automatic- or human feeder might pollute the water. It's better not to feed the fish at all rather than risk overfeeding. As I said earlier, THEY WILL FIND FOOD IN THE TANK. Especially for only 3 days d:

In case it helps, the fish need food at least once every 15 days.
