Well when you go check on the medications, look at the ingredients and see if it has in it some of the same ingredients what I used.  I used mostly Jungle products but I don't know if you can get those by you so I listed the ingredients so other people with the same symptoms can check the ingredients of the medications.  I also used tetracycline HCL (hydrochloride).
You might have to treat the water and also feed a medicated food. Smiley

Ruth, I gogled a link for you, you should be able to get this meds at your petshop. Also Aquarium salt.
There are also other brands, different names, but I believe it is important you get the strong med for fin rot and bacterial infections.
Even if you cannot get medicated food, Minde had a brilliant idea in her posts, to soak food when you dissolve the tablets.

It worries me that you cannot get the white fluff out of your tank... Undecided

I guess it's not, you need antibiotics in this severe case.

If you can get Aquari Cycline or sth similar in ingredients. You may be able to print the page and go to the petstore. I know it's very urgent for your fishies. Here's more info:

How many pet shops have you got in your area?

And how are YOU doing? Feeling any better?

You should be able to get this in the pet shops.

Do you have vets there who treat goldfish?

Yes, I know how you feel... Cry

Do you have at least Pimafix and Melafix on hand until you can get the Antibiotics tomorrow?

Keep up with waterchanges trying to get that white fluff out. I'd also remove the plastic plants and clean them.
How's Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH ?

OOOHHH this is sad Sad
so the following on your shopping list:

API MasterTestKit for freshwater
Pimafix
Melafix

every fish keeper should have those: Pima- and Melafix is good to have as for first aid, like we have our painkillers in our household pharmacy. The testkit is essential too, to test the water every week, so you can prevent illness by keeping the water quality pristine and the fish happy and healthy.

Waterconditioner
like PRIME from Seachem, to remove Chlorine, Chloramine and heavy metals from tapwater as they are toxic to fish:

beneficial bacteria
like STABILITY from Seachem to aid in the nitrogen cycle

Multicure
based on Methylene Blue and Malachite Green in case of an outbreak of ich or finrot or other fungal, bacterial, parasitic deseases.

Aquari Cycline ( or sth similar ) in this severe case...... otherwise -I am afraid- it'll get worse and your darling fishies may not make it.

When you go to the pet shop in the mornings, take a cup of water with you, have it tested, write the results down and PLEASE, PLEASE post them on here, I mean the numerical results.

I can't add anymore than everyone else has, but you do really need some better and stronger medication!! How long have they been like this for?? I've never seen fin rot like this and this is a prime example of why gldfish need 40 litres each!! I really hope you are able to get your hands on some anti-bacterial medication as the stuff you are using obviously isn't working so I would advise to stop using it. Try to find some melafix and pimafix and remember to keep your water perfect!

Best of luck!!

Don't bother adding the melafix/pimafix, these won't deal with the bacteria at all, and it will risk getting your fish even worse! Undecided
Just try and get the antibiotic instead and treat with that.
I'm really sorry in case one of them won't make it, but at least you'll be able to treat the other one on a better basis! I'm not having a go at anyone, I don't need to pick on someone because I know how it feels not knowing what to do about your fish. But you do need to see the reality in it as well, if you can't fix the water/space issue, your fish won't be able to recover very well.

But I know you're doing your best, now let's hope you'll get the meds on time!

Other than that, I agree with Andrea, maybe you should try and change 50% of the water or more to try and get as much as possible of the current medication out.

I found sumthin stronger, n am using that. My fear is, the bigger fish, perky, has stopped eatin. He spends quite a lot of time at the top of the tank too. He gets the odd spert n swims around alot, but then goes bak to the top. Is this a bad sign? :-(

Goldfish have a better chance of survivng illness the quicker you treat them.
The weaker they get, the less they are interested in food.
I'm not sure if either of them will make it.
Not being interested in food is usually a sign they've given up on life! Sad

Do you have some nice treats he may like very much to get his appetite back?
Maybe Gammarus or Daphnia. Sometimes those extra yummy things can get a sick fish back to eating. They are like us humans, when we are sick, there is no or not much appetite either, only when sth extra, extra yummmmmy comes along...
How is the wate quality?
How are the test results?
What's the name of the medication you got?
What have you done in the meantime?

Good luck with the treatment of your other fish, it sounds as though he is on the mend.
Just don't add anymore fish to that size tank, and make sure that your water quality is good and he should live a long and happy life Smiley

Just done a water test, the ph is 6.8.  Ammonia is 0.50ppm . Nitrite is 0ppm. Nitrate is between 0ppm - 5.0ppm.   Not sure y the ph is down, dont have anythin to bring it up, our tap water is 6.6 anyway.
The name of the medication is "king british, disease clear"   i asked in a couple of places n they sed that was the best. Will repeat the teast 2moz n  also get the rite stuff to change it. (Which wud b?)

Never heard of this brand of meds, what's in it?

But never mind the MOST IMPORTANT is to get the Ammonia down to 0 ppm.... and your tank is definitely NOT cycled.

What you need to do now is another 50% or even 60% waterchange.
To your tap water you MUST add waterconditioner ( to remove chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals ) also you MUST add beneficial bacteria to your filtermedia, even the doubble dose if necessary.

You also MUST test the water every day and change it accordingly to get on top of this Ammonia.

Please keep us updated with test results, so we can guide you through towards a pristine waterquality and a healthy and happy fish.

Beneficial bacteria is as important as the conditioner. They aid in the Nitrogen Cycle. Without them you'll have a **** of a long time to get your tank cycled.

Didn't they advise you at the pet shop? Perhaps they didn't and let you put water in the tank and sold you 2 fish to put in straight away? Well, damage is done, no one can reverse it, let's see to get everything what's left right ASAP

Do you know what the Nitrogen Cycle is?
If not, please don't be afraid to ask, every one on here had to learn about it.

Good Nite, Ruth

I'm very sorry to hear about Perky Sad Just remember to never let a fish get that sick and if medication isn't working it is time to change, with medication if you haven't seen a difference within 3 days, well it's time to change Smiley

You should definitely continue with the treatment! What does it say on the bottle? Always follow their instructions, do not stop treatment to early if it is working!! I'm glad you did the water change, what are the results now? You may have to do a water change every day or second day until you see no ammonia or nitrites but keep up with the medicine too!

Why did your sister protest water conditioner? Do what you think is right with prober advice too from people with experience and experts  Wink

I hope your fish gets better Smiley
