My New Guy :)

I went into my favorite pet shop to look at some small trops for my Chi...but you have to walk right past the goldies to get to the trops
Let's face it, if I have space and they have a cute tiny baby goldfish, he's coming home with me
I had planned to wait until I found one of my "dream colors" (white, lemon or panda), but they had white and lemon and I picked this guy anyway, just somethin' about his little face! He's in qt right now, just for observation, but he'll be moving to the big tank shortly, since I trust this store and 8 of my 10 fish have come from there since Sept without any problems. Introducing Alvarez, the cutest lil bit ever

Adorable little fish!
Congradulations; I'm sure Alvarez will be happy in your beautiful tank!
It's also very nice that you've found a trustworthy store so you don't have to worry so much about unhealthy fish.
I know how
that
is...the irrisistable fish isle...they need to make fish stores without fish so we won't be tempted!

Thanks, I'm just in love with the little dude
The store I got him from is great, they quarantine their fish when they arrive and treat the tank for flukes and parasites and someone is always cleaning tanks when I go in, lol, pretty good for a fairly rural area
I have to fight fish store temptation now, I'm stocked
Unless I set up another tank...lol

He is so precious!
I love the unusual coloring too
Did you have any photos already of the main tank? (Sorry if you do, my memory is the worst... xD)

Thanks
The big button eyes are what got me, lol. I had posted a full tank shot in my Introducing My Fish thread but I haven't posted a full tank shot with the new plants, I'll have to do that once Alvarez moves in with the big kids

I just have to avoid goldfish temptation, lol, I am still on a search for fish for my Chi and I picked up a 3.5 gallon tank today, so it'll be great for a betta

His colors are much warmer and more vibrant under the lighting in the big tank; I'll post some updated tank pics later today, after it's cleaned
His eyes are matching big, black buttons, they're the reason I couldn't resist

I think this fish's coloration will be become Calico with soft blue base when adult.

Nevada: That's not quite true, this is "simply" a matte black and white ryukin. I have had two baby calico goldfish myself (they're not babies anymore), so if they're calico, they're calico from the beginning
I also have this wonderful adult fantail I bought a few months ago with similar coloring as this one, so I'm pretty sure it'll stay this way.

Here's an updated tank pic and some of Alvarez with the big fish
I took the gravel out of my tank, had a choking incident and almost lost one of my telescopes, thankfully I was here to get it out of his mouth. The rocks keep them fairly well entertained, but I'm going to add some marbles or gems for them to push around, keep them active

Gorgeous
He looks so happy with the big ones!
How's the feeding going? Is little Alvarez getting food?
Why did you remove the gravel? :'c Or is that because of the choking accident?

Thanks
They pose well during pre-feeding photo shoots
Alvarez is doing great with the big guys, there was no reaction when I put him in the tank, he just kind of joined the crowd as they swam by. He's very fast, so no problems at feeding time. Between gel food and no gravel, it's very easy to see who's eating how much. Pippin's choking incident scared me enough that I cancelled cocktails and appetizers with friends to clean the tank and get it out of there; it was no more than a minute between me noticing he had a problem and getting the hood off to help him and he had already gone from thrashing in great distress to sinking to the bottom and just kind of twitching
His mouth was stretched to the limit and when I finally got the piece that was stuck out, 2 more pieces came out after it!

Awesome on the progress with Alvarez
...worse on the gravel accident. Could it be that the gravel was a little bit too big? :/

The gravel I had in there was very natural looking, smooth but random shapes and sizes. I've never seen gravel that is a standard size, so with 10 fish ranging from 1" to 5", the assorted stuff means everyone could find a dangerous sized piece
They really only seemed bored the first day, then they discovered that plants (real and silk) are great fun (apparently the silk are only fun once they've been knocked down)
Ron, you are right about the adrenaline, all I remember is the sick feeling when I realized he was in trouble and the relief when the gravel came out

Here, we have a kind of gravel that's pretty rounded in appearance, and has very small pieces, about 5-7 millimeters max. I think that would be a safe option for your fish
Adding glass marbles would make it hard to clean the tank bottom.

Nice fish. He's like the odd one out but will turn out to be the most special of them all.
