But heavens, are they expensive! I've seen them around here for absolutely nothing less than 200€. They're usually up to 400€.

yes but my size demands a big filter, and i gave about 100Euro for it. (132 $)

Like with everything else you can always try to find a used one.  People are always upgrading to bigger and sometimes will sell their old canisters.   Smiley

For sure! Smiley I'll be looking around online and in that special little aquarium shop nearby Wink But I'll see how well it'll work with the pump that'll come with the tank itself Smiley I didn't get it yet because they couldn't find it, so I'd go there again sometime d:

I don't know what mine is...external or internal but the pump is inside the tank so I'm guess internal but it hangs on the side of the tank too. Cool

I think that would be external, cause mines the same way, the little suction bit is on the inside but the actual filter things are on the outside. Tongue

We ordered an internal one for the new "old" tank, hope it comes soon.

Mindemae, you mentioned you clean your tanks with vinegar?
Is it safe for fishies? It would get rid of calcium build ups.

I clean my tanks with vinegar when I tear down a tank.  It does get the hard water build up off the tanks.
It is safe for fish but it is acidic so you want to rinse it off then.  Too much vinegar of course in your water will alter the ph into being more acidic.  I have a friend who uses it in her tanks to lower her ph.  She says it works great!  However it is a completely natural cleaner with no harmful chemicals. Right baking soda would raise ph, so making the water more alkaline.
Most water is naturally high enough tho for goldfish keeping. Smiley

Yea Mine generally sits at a nice 7.4 Tongue thats the pH for blood, you know, too XD
