Black all over my bubble eye?

Recently I've been getting black coloration on my orange bubble eye. Its not just on the tip of his fins, though. A black ring goes all the way around its tail. Also, a huge blotch of it covers half of the left side. The black is not 3D, as it grows on tail and scale. Anyone who could know what it is, please get back to me on that.

Can you post a picture of this black coloration? It's hard to tell what the problem is without actually seeing it.   

Is the fish still eating and behaving normally?

I would completely show a photo, but there's bad news. He sadly just died this morning. Cry  So I have no clue what it was and i never will. It really stinks, but its part of life.
