where to put your tank
« on: June 24, 2010, 09:37:57 AM »

ok I get why you say not to put the tank by the window.

but u must agree with me on this

the best place to put a tank is where u will enjoy it the most. whats the point of a tank u never get to see. or it has to be where u have room for it

in my small place i have a 55 gallon by our bed near a window(it puts us to sleep) there is one more place i could put it put we would rarely get to see it so what would the point be in 2 years when i get my 125 gallon it will be the same thing where ever i can view it the most.

I guess it is personal preference where you put your tanks.
I have 2 of my tanks near a north window where the sun doesn't shine directly on them.
My 55 gallon tank is in front of two north side windows in our living room.
We do have blinds on both windows but on the north side the sun does not shine directly through the windows at all. Smiley

I would love to have a tank in our bedroom but there is just no room!
We HAD to get the King bed so the "pond helpers" (dogs) could sleep with us! LOL! Wink

In my previous apartment our whole wall was windows, more or less, so I didn't have much of a choice of where to put it. But there was thick forest by the windows, so even if the sun was shining into the apartment, it never reached directly to my tanks, and that's what's important. It doesn't really matter if you keep it near a window as long as cold isn't leaking in on winters, and as long as the sun isn't shining directly on the tank for long periods of the day.
Mom has her tank about 2 meters from a window, but this works fine, and she never had troubles with algae or temperature fluctuations because the sun doesn't shine there until evenings, and again, the forest is covering most of it Wink

So, as long as the sun won't have too much of an impact on the tank, there's no problem with keeping it close to a window. The end Cheesy

We have ours where we can see it from our living room couch (and the fish can see us!), although it is at a bit of an angle.  There is also a folding chair that we can place in front for a closer look.  We did have to modify the location in that there is a heating/cooling vent right over the tank- we closed it so the temperature changes wouldn't be so overwhelming.

well at the moment mine is at the foot of my bed (and yes, tanks in the bedroom will put you to sleep in about 2 seconds) but as were moving house in a week or so, they are going pride of place in our living room  Grin

Ours they have got their tanks in the living-dining area, so we can see them almost all the time, and they even can glance into one of the bathrooms, lol

Feeding is the easy part and the most fun! Wink
I dunno I was looking at another empty,15 gallon in my office thinking I would really like to landscape it, cuz I just bought a cool book on landscaping your aquarium.  It has all these different designs and plans to follow for different size aquariums. Grin

Jordan,
Naw, I like my little pond! Cheesy  It was a birthday gift from my husband one year and it's just right for our goldfish.
It's easy to care for and it's just big enough for the corner outside our back door.  Fit's perfectly! Smiley
We have patio blocks out there and chairs and a table.  Perfect for sitting and enjoyng the sunset in the evenings, watching the fish eat bugs and enjoying a glass of wine! Wink

Jordan,
Oh gosh, nothing fancy just the 10 cent feeders, commons and comets, who some are over 11 years old now and about 9 inches. Grin
I bring them in over the winter!
I have left them outdoors all winter before but last year I got a bigger tank and decided to bring them in because I missed seeing them Roll Eyes

Well what I like about it is it has compatability lists of plants and fish for coldwater and tropical.
It has very detailed colored drawings of the different plants and information regarding each one.
So I guess I bought it for that reason to get ideas on landscaping my next aquarium project. Wink
