Bare with me as I'm new to all this :-)

I woke yesterday and found my fish "feeling sorry for itself and wasn't his normal jolly self.

I have notice he has got abit of a swallow face and now today it's looking bruised too. It lives with another 6 fish (small then him) the tank is a good size and has a pump etc and is kept cleaned and cleaned out every 3 to 4 weeks.

For 7 goldfish, you should have a pretty big tank, like 70 gallons or more and lots of filtration.

Many people do a water change weekly.  Since you're only cleaning every 3-4 weeks and may have an over-stocked tank, the water quality may not be the best.  There could be excess ammonia or nitrates, or could there could be bacteria or parasites growing in the water.

My advice would be to test the water parameters, and keep the water quality the best that you can.

We use a quarantine tank for situations like this one and move him to something by himself so you can treat JUST him.  If he is the only one sick then he needs to be separated for treatment.  If you don't have another tank or anything you can move him too that has a filter and bubble wand then you are going to have to treat all of them but I don't recommend that.  It looks to be a fungus issue and probably due to poor water, you need to be doing 50% water changes added a water conditioner EVERY week, this is what I do and the water is super clean and healthy fish.  This is what is recommended on most sites.  He needs pristine water and you could start with melafix, this treats fungus and open abrasions which is what I am seeing, you can also try aquarium salt, this can help the healing process as well, dose it at only 2% for now I would say.  If you can't find it at your local pet store then see what they have there to treat fungus.
