I currently have three goldfish, a common, a fantail, and an oranda. I have had them for about two years and I have decided to purchase a bigger tank for them. I will probably get around a 60 gallon tank. This will be a fresh water aquarium. So, my question is... do I need an algae eater to go in the new tank? If so what kind? I thought about getting a bristlenose plecos because they don't get very big, but I'm not sure if I will even need an algae eater. I do keep my tank clean and I don't have a big algae problem. So, do I need an algae eater? If I do need one, what kind would be compatible with my goldfish?

(Note: the algae eater I purchase will not be viewed as just the clean-up crew. It will be considered just as much a watery pet as the rest of my fish. So, I need one that will be compatible with the other fish.)

You don't need an algae eater, most plecos will get too big and will add greatly to your Bio load, and chinese algae eaters prefer fish slime to algae. If you are worried about algae get a Japanese Trapdoor snail. They eat most algae, missed fish food and decomposing plants (they will not hurt your live plants if you have any. And best of all, because they are live bearing, they only produce about a dozen pea size babies a year.
And they are cold hardy, I use them in my goldies tank and in my pond with great success.
