They were all doing it this afternoon. They are learning very quickly As soon as I put my finger into the tank they come up to it and nibble on it hehe, even when there isn't any food in it.
Btw Hanna did you end up buying that seaweed I showed you? Thats what they are eating

How sweet! Mine use to eat the gel food off my fingers, there's usually a small drop or two left from the bag that I have to take away with the tip of my finger

What are those little things that stick out on both sides of a goldfish's head not too far away from their eyes? They kind of look like little horns lol.
Could it be their nostrils?

The nose flaps tend to grow pretty big on older fish btw, that 8-yo. fantail we have at home has really, really big ones! While my kids don't have that much yet, even if they're pretty big already

... how can I ever sit in front of a patient with bushy nose hair and talk optics seriously, my eyes will be stuck on those nose hairs and I'll see my goldfishies narial flaps... hahahahaha

Goldfish have a sense of smell so to speak but the sense of smell is not the same as with us because they live in water.
The distinction between smell and taste is about the same, in that they more or less have a highly specialized sense to chemicals diffusing through the water.  They have what's called chemoreceptors inside the nasal openings, in the mouth and around the head that helps them find food and also communicate with their fellow tank mates.

Haha Nemo is 5 and his 'nose hair' is the biggest in the tank
I can tell that they have a sense of smell because when I put food in the tank sometimes they don't see me put it in but they turn around and start swimming towards it straight away because they can smell it.
