New additions and another round of "Name that Fish!"

Here is a pic of Elder II. Juniper moves way too fast for a good picture.
This is my new oranda- I believe it's called a lemonhead but not sure. I need everyone's opinion on names. Suggestions must be the name of a tree or shrub. My ideas so far are Magnolia and Linden since they both have yellow flowers, or I may break from tradition and call her Pansy. Any ideas?

Edit- no clue why that pic didn't work...you get the idea.

I like Marigold too, suits for sure... and it looks like the connection dropped out (or corrupted) during the upload process of the 2nd image... try again if you have time and see if it happens again. Cheers

Marigold is cute! I went with Linden a few days ago after polling my friends on Facebook. My friends think I'm insane even though I try to keep fish-posts to a minimum.
Thanks Ron, I'll try it again later. I noticed that uploading pics from my phone results in more failures.

Petsmart if you can believe that! Her wen is underdeveloped (but growing before my eyes) and her caudal fin is held too stiffly for competion or breeding but she will make a nice pet.

I think being a fish keeper is just one of those things, if someone hasn't owned fish themselves or has no interest in doing so, they just aren't going to understand!

Also if you don't mind me asking, is the quote under your picture from one of your children?

Here is a new fish! Isn't she the ugliest thing you have ever seen? She was at the pet store for a month- no one wanted her. I may call her Chinaberry or possibly Crabapple...I'm running out of tree names. She has tiny ineffectual fins, she is so funny to watch.

Oh my.... What colour is her eye? I love the unique markings on her tummy, but her eyes freaking me out a little looking at it XD...

Yeah her big telescope eyes are an ugly blue-grey and you can see veins in them. Lol. Her skin is very see-through so she looks quite pink. Oh well. She has a forever home here. She off-sets Rowan's stunning beauty.  Cheesy

She's so cute! Cheesy Most calico telescopes have that eyecolor, but I haven't ever seen markings that make the pupil appear square!

Well that didn't go well. She is very, very blind. She can see my hand and will take food from me and can find the cubes of gel but has no chance of getting any frozen food. She likes to search the gravel all day but the other fish don't really leave leftovers.  I spent the day emptying the 30, putting it next to my bed and making it nice for her. Also doubled up on filters so I finally have 300gph. But I am wondering if I should put Blackthorn with her...I don't think she'll care either way.

She'd probably do good with some other moors Smiley
My Raven is really good at getting food even though these others are swarming the feeding corner! She uses to grab big lumps of flakes from my hand and pull the seaweed out of my grip Wink I think it's the size, she can just push any of the other fish out of her way whenever! xD I use to give them sinking food sometimes too, and then there's plenty for them to look for on the bottom Smiley

This is Zelkova (I have taken to looking up obscure tree-names online). He is a narcreous fantail. He is by himself in the "fantail tank". The girls and Willow will be joining him next week. Cute eh?

When you said that I totally had to laugh out loud...everyone I know, including my friends that aren't fish people, don't understand how I can love fish so much! They look at me with kindly smiles but inside they're probably thinking, "This girl is a certified nut! What's so special about a d*mb fish anyway?"  I tell them how sad I am when I lose one of my babies and they go, "That's too bad.  Get another one!"

Then I start showing them the pictures of my fish on my cell phone and they pretend like they don't know me. 

Ours is a high and lonely life...what would we do without forums like these?  Cheesy

Lol Goldie! I only have one "fish-friend" so most people think I'm pretty nuts. My sister had a discussion with me when I sought vet care for Blackthorn because he was on sale for $2 which I guess means he's not worth spending money on?? Oh well.

Hey that's still awesome though that you have ONE friend!   Wink  And lol about the discussion with your sister...if I ever tried to take one of my fish to the vet for care, my sister would think I need vet care.
