New and old Additions!
« on: June 09, 2010, 05:36:32 AM »

Hi!

I mentioned that I would introduce y'all to my mom's fish too! So here are her three pretty fantails (:
First one would be Guldplock II (Rough translation "Gold pick" he's golden, and picking the rocks around) none of us know how old he is exactly, but he is around 7 years, I think. He is proudly swimming about, sporting his 5 inches in body length (and a mile of fins).

Second fish, is called Nossie, because she's got a red spot on the head Wink In other words, and elegant Tancho fantail, about 4.5 inch long. And in the same picture, you see the small golden fantail called Pliskin. He was bullied terribly by a three-spot gourami that mom kept there, but she removed him for a while so Pliskin could recover and spend time with the other goldfish, and after that, the gourami has been very nice to everyone (:

They all live in a 100 liter tank along with a few corys and other catfish + a pair of mollies that make children all the time.

And here are my own fish! I'll start with Horus, since you all were curious about him lately (:

He's got a rusty red/brown color and beautiful metallic scales. And wonderful fins!
His little pompoms might not be very visible on these pictures since they are more or less the same color as the rest of his head. He's a very cute fish, still a bit shy when being fed, but he seemed to enjoy the camera! Cheesy

Finally, my Orandas.
I'll start with Claymore, he's a completely different fish than when I took him home! He seemed kinda' constipated and was sometimes floating about with his nose down and seemed really... tired. But I fed him and his friend Berry with peas and tubifex + blood worms regularly, and before I knew it, they were all playful and eager to eat and spend time with me Wink
Claymore is the most eager fish I have when it comes to eating, everytime I approach he wants something from me and he even seems to enjoy biting my fingertips. He is also guilty for uprooting my little anubias :C
So, he's the brown one, he's so cute when he opens his mouth at me! It's all pink and cute inside! :'D

My little Raspberry (full name) had some healing wounds on her fins, that I hadn't noticed until they were in my tank. They looked almost like someone had bitten off little round bites of the edges of her anal fins, lower lobes on her tails and the front of the dorsal. But now all the black outlines of the wounds are gone, and she's as snuggly and active as ever! She's the one with the red markings, and red upper lip Wink

I'm very happy that they recovered as fast as they did (:

They are all such gorgeous fish with great names Smiley And the fins on Guldplock II and Horus are amazing. They all look very happy and healthy fish.

They are beautiful, Nossie!  I love that chocolate oranda and the Pompom. Smiley I am so jealous since we usually cannot find anything more exotic but an oranda around here.  Your mom's fish is very pretty with it's flowy fins.  Looks like a veiltail with the wrong shaped fins but beautiful none the less! Wink

Andrea: Thank you! (: I agree! I bet Horus is going to be quite similar to Guldplock once he'll be fully grown Wink It's not really visible on the pic btw, but his tail looks very much like a butterfly when he turns his nose towards you.

Mindemae: I figured that he might be a fringetail! They're quite similar to veiltails, but they have forked caudal (:
I was amazed already by the Orandas when I found them, I haven't seen anything more exotic than comets and calico fantails (and some red caps) around before! And I was even more surprised when I noticed that one of the dudes with the Orandas happened to be a pompom Wink Too bad that shop is rather... not trustworthy.
But since you live in the states maybe you'd be interested in this: (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.) ? There are auctions regularly with all kinds of wonderful goldfish! Have a look at the pictures of the previous ones they've sold. Quite expensive of course (there was once a ranchu that cost $3999!) but absolutely gorgeous! Show quality for sure! (:

Wow! I can't imagine anyone in their right mind paying that much for a goldfish.  I can sure think of other things I would buy with almost $4,000!!!!! Sheesh!!! Shocked

Nossie, just curious but what do you pay in finland for an oranda or pompom.  My thor and Bobbie cost $27 each!! and I thought that was outragiously expensive!  I totally felt guilty after buying then for spending that much! Undecided
But now I am really glad I did, they are so beautiful and healthy and I have enjoyed them so much.
Ike and Mike were teeny tiny baby orandas with no guarantee if they would actually develop a wen.  I see mike's wen is developing nicely but not Ike's yet.  Oh well they were only $6 each. Cheesy

Oh Nossie, Horus is an absolute sweetheart!!! and what a pretty colour too! Smiley All of your fish are so adorable, personally I like Berry the best Smiley with her little upper lip XD

and WOW 4000$ for a fish??? thats insane! it would have to have some serious genetic alterations for me to spend that much! and even then! lol

Mindemae: I know! And the most awesome thing is that someone actually did! The betting was "only" around $200 when I checked once, and the next day, someone had bought it for the "Buy now"-price, which was 4000!
Anyway, I paid 10 (about $14) for both my Orandas and for the third one as well, but since he died, I got my pompom instead, for free Wink But hey, I think Bobbi and Thor are wonderful fish! Totally worth their price! (: How big were they when you bought them?
My cousin has a VERY small red cap Oranda, he's at most one inch (+a half at most) and his head growth looks really funny... xD Somehow like two weird balls, since the fish is so tiny! Gonna be interesting to watch him grow...

Katarine: Thank you! Cheesy I know, Berry is so cute! Especially when she's staring at you intensely, it's almost a bit scary xD
Yeah, it's a pretty insane price! Most fish on that site go for about $180-$300 on an average, but that one was a really HUGE, black Ranchu that looked so... fat xD He had big head growth and flawless tail tuck, fins and back. Sure, he was pretty but not entirely to my taste. Guess I'm still a bit of a n00b when it comes to judging goldfish d:

Nossie, all your and your mum's fish are ADORABLE
GuldplockII is a huuuuuuuuuuge beautiful fish, love his fins, so all together he must be about 9-10 inch.
I love Horus how he's posing, soooo sweeeet
And Claymore's colours are so lovely, never seen this colour combination. Berry's lip is cute, love it.
Calico is there in the background? He, Honey and Mr. Popo and ALL are beautiful  Wink

Yeah, Hanna, that is expensive too! Undecided  I hate to say but here fish like Hump and Heps and Sonorus, and most of my pond fish, the commons and comets go for 10-13 cents here!  and so people buy them to feed to their snakes and turtles and bigger fish.

Nossie they were about 5 inches when I got them but now they are so much more I dunno, filled out?  Round? LOL!  And just big all around!  They seem to be growing around instead of longer?  If that makes any sense. Smiley

Yea Sonorus was a Wal Mart fish (before they became a supercenter). I got her for 1.99 CAD. Tiger was an expensive little guy, at 5 dollars, Mind, he was in with the fantails, so he was cheaper than the other orandas, at 8 dollars XD

Hanna: Thank you! (: Yes, there he is Wink On almost every photo I took, Calico was digging about somewhere! He's so sweet <3
The first times I saw Claymore I had troubles with deciding his color... He didn't really look chocolaty, and he didn't look bronzy either! xD But I finally looked at him in my tank, and there he was more or less chocolaty, but then I already decided that he was a whiskey fish c:

Mindemae: Then I understand the price! They were rather big already when you got them (: I dunno if I mentioned it, but my Orandas were about 3.5 inches. I was stunned by Claymore's headgrowth by the way o_O It's so beautiful!

Katarine: Really lucky! He's probably gonna live for long and be really beautiful in the end! (: What a bargain Cheesy

Hanna: yea I know XD at first I was like "his name's TIGER! TIIIIIGER!" and then it kinda grew on me too, but he's still Tiger to me Smiley

Nossie: Oh jeez I hope so!! Ive grown attached to these fish, I really hope they live forever...

Why, Goldfish do grow old... c: So I'm sure they'll be really rewarding for you to keep (: Especially since you know how to, there can't be much of a problem Wink Not to mention that you already dealt with disease, so you're pretty much... fine with them fish by now! Cheesy
I felt like I got some epiphany when treating my little Calgar (that passed away after all, yon accursed carps were nomming my child in the shop) and like I would be able to deal with almost anything from now on when I actually know now what MOST disease/health problems look like.

Or when you have to watch the poor baby suffer... I haven't seen such a sick goldfish before :c I've seen small ones that died like... instantly, but I haven't seen one that's been sick for so long, and so terribly! It really hurt me that I couldn't do anything for him :c

I see that you discuss prices for a fish - at one time a Koi was sold for 100.000 $ at an auction, thats a lot of money for a fish.. Shocked

But you see, there are people out there, with heaps of $$$$$ and they don't know what to do with them  ( I would, LOL )
and they spend it for the all crazy things...
