I have a black veiltail that has developed a white dot on each eye and is floating upside down, but swims around if I tap on the tank and when I feed it. Does anyone know what is wrong with her/him? Please help us. She has been doing this for 2 wks. Thanks.

The floating upside down could be the result of swim bladder disease, which is caused by constipation or a bacterial infection due to poor water quality. Try varying its diet or change to another fish food brand to see if it helps and remember not to overfeed it. If it has a bacterial infection, you can use a broad sprectrum antibiotic which you can buy at the pet store to kill the bacteria.
The white dot (cloudy eyes)in the eye could be related to nutrition also or parasitic infection.

Thanks for the advice, Jan. I have done what you suggested and if she survives until Friday, I think she'll make it.
I really appreciate your help.

Hi try sjelled peas you can use frozen but let them defrost first then pop it out the shel as they dont digest this so well but only one to two pease per fish depending on size is good for constipation aswell

Hi Calipso, what is a jelled pea? Where can I get some? Here it is Feb 7th and Goldie is still swimming upside down. She swims to the bottom and along the top when she's fed. Otherwise she hangs upside down on the top. I treated her with antibiotic twice and changed her diet being careful not to overfeed. No change, except that she moves more. Poor Goldie. I hope she's not suffering,

help my glodfish has a big white cyst on its body and another one growing in its dorsal fin. Now the fish is turning upside down i think due to the weight of its cyst

I heard that you can feed a gold fish pieces of cucumber to help if they are bloated....does this actually help? Fish store said putting in saltier water for just a bit might help. My water is good and hasn't been kept up with well, so don't think that is it. I have some of the ick away blue drops - will those help if it is bacterial?
