Recently come to the conclusion on here due to my Comet's strange behaviour that my current tank is too small for him.

Here's a picture of the fish tank set up and ready for him in a few days!

Can't wait to put him in and see what he thinks of it!

It is 48L so not massive but big enough for him to grow for now, cos hes not a big fish yet! I have had it set up for 2 days now, going to introduce him Friday as I have sold the old tank for then!

Yeah I thought blue and green are boy colours haha! Oh yeah that would be cool! Might look around for some fancy back grounds?

So cute! Are you going to add any plants? Java ferns are really common, cheap and easy to care for, not to mention that goldfish think that they're disgusting

Checked out java ferns and found some cheap ones! I am really keen to buy some but would like some advice about attaching them to rocks?
I have read you need to attach them to something to let the roots float, is this right?

You should of course quarantine everything new you buy, plants included I once got a bunch of Java ferns from the community tank at my parents' place, so I kept them in a glass jar by the window, this way they would get sunlight, and I just topped up the water sometimes. Parasites will die if there are no host fish around

I just stick my ferns into the gravel actually, soon enough the roots will grow around a bunch of pebbles and they'll stay in place, I also have a few of them and anubias grown onto drift wood

Thank you! They do, they mostly eat algae off of them though, lucky for me I should post pics of that new plant I got... it grew all the way to the surface, and the smaller babies just love it!

As long as you don't pay a huge amount for plants that you aren't sure on, it doesn't matter too much if they give it a bit of a nibble
So far the plants I buy are from a cheap little shop, that sells cabomba and elodea in bunches for £1.50
Lucky ate the cabomba I brought last year, it's still alive, just very bald and I brought a load of elodea to try out -they were on offer  - with the hopes that with lot's in there, Lucky couldn't possibly eat all of it at once

Haha well the cabomba remains are hidden among the elodea, I'm wondering if it'll grow back XD
It is pretty much a small bushy part at the bottom with a green stem the rest of the way up now

Yes Lucky is such a tiny thing in the tank isn't she?! I'm wondering when she'll grow, a little concerned about the stunting caused by being in the little tank, but time will tell. At least she has a proper sized home for a little while
Until she grows big enough for a pond, she is staying with me  

As for the plant, you will know soon enough if his eating it
I originally thought Lucky was only 'nibbling', I hadn't realised how un-bushy like the plant had become until I saw pictures of what a cabomba plant was supposed to look like  

I wouldn't worry too much if he is eating the plant, it's just like a salad bar for the fish really

Wow I'm surprised he ate a java fern?!
I thought they were meant to be goldfish proof?!

Mine do nibble the Java Ferns, but they never tear any pieces from them The sailfin pleco I had earlier did though... the plants are still recovering.. D:

He was indeed... had to give him away because it turned out that he was hurting the goldfish :C

Cdale, I had the same problem with the cabomba, I've moved the last of it to the snails tank now, as I found it floating about the tank during maintenance yesterday, looking very sorry for itself XD

Give different plants a go, I've had better success with the elodea so far, it's growing nicely, so I'm hoping it can grow quick enough to keep up with Lucky

He was a Sailfin pleco when I got him he was 7cm and when I gave him away he was 18 xD After about six months..?
