cheers Bob for your kind words, and greetings Nossie and Goldiegirl...

Nossie they are both nearly 4 inches including the tail... they a voracious and a little competitive when foods about, and the begging, every time they see you they think its food time... I agree about the fish sleeping patterns... early on I was leaving the lights on till later at night, I would see them having little "cat naps" during the day... now I turn on the lights when I rise in the morn and off when the sun goes down... this routine now has them being active all day... And Goldiegirl, I have a rock with a little arch in the middle in their tank, I could see them marrying under that, lol Cheesy

cant wait to see the pics of the nacreous one Wink

... sun up at 4am Nossie! I have a friend who's son has just got a contract to play in Finland with an Ice Hockey team, (he also represents Aus) I am sure he will be in for a few other surprises... Thanks again for answering my questions. > Ron

Well, technically, it barely ever goes down during the summers, the summer nights are really bright here

Most people moving here have problems with that... but it all gets balanced out in the winters since the sun is only up for about 6 hours then and the rest of the day/night it's pitch black Tongue

So... in winters it happens that the temperatures fall to -30 degrees for a couple of weeks in a row, usually it stays between -20-25 or something like that Tongue

Summers are the same, only with a plus instead of the minus Wink

Oh, and it ranges between 26-30 degrees, I'd say. Unless it's a rainy and cloudy summer, which happens |: *hate*

that is extreme Nossie, that must offer a lot of challenges to deal with when it gets that cold, I like your summer temps, they sound ideal... we have the other extreme here in summer, its mostly in the 30's but we get a few days over 40 and some as high as 45 degrees in Jan and Feb, going outside is like opening the door on a blast furnace and walking smack into it.. its a dry heat here too, not that sticky humidity they get up Northern Aust... > Ron

I have no idea how I'd survive in such heat... I honestly can't handle +30... xD (already +25 seems to be an obstacle to me...)

Here in Florida we had 109.2 farenheit ( 36 celcuis ) one day. Shattered our earleir 102 degress record! Shocked

its oppressive, I think once we had 15 days in a row over 38 or 40... I sort of know what you mean Nossie, I always rode to work in all sorts of bad weather (motorbike though) but it was not as cold as what you have to put up with, thankfully... Cheers > Ron

Cheers for that GoldFishNoob, they both are about 4 inches, Bowie is a bit of a bulldog, very industrious fella, always seaching thru the gravel etc and barging about, while Snowie is more of a princess, she like to float around in the bubbles and will only go and visit the "high profile" items like the big rock, the boat, some plants and her fav shells...

Hi Nossie and fantailer,

hope your both well... they were about the same size when I bought them, they may be a little bigger, if anything they have gotten wider Cheesy

... they also do this thing every now and then after they have eaten, where they go nose to tail (or nose to butt) with each other and spiral up and down the tank, its quite cute to watch, have you ever seen or heard of this before... would be greatly interested to know. cheers

Hey Ron, when you describe your goldfish going "nose to butt" and spiraling around the tank, do they just follow each other around or seem to push against one another? If they are pushing it could be a bit of aggression once food is introduced into the tank...I had a problem with that once, where one goldie would (with his mouth crammed full of food the little piggy) push against another he thought had gotten more food than him. Sometimes it would happen in slow motion if the bully was still trying to chew up its meal...if yours are not seeming to be forceful than maybe they are just in love and showing a bit of spawn-like behavior! Cheesy

Fine over here, Ron!! I hope you and everyone else are having a good time, I feel like I haven't seen the three of you here for a while! The fish are doing great too, and I got some new kinds of plants to try out Wink

One's huge and called Cryptocoryne, I think or something like that, it really looks great so I hope they won't eat it... c:*planning on buying more of them if they'll survive*

My two big girls (Berry and Freya) tend to bump each other slightly, like once every now and then (at most once a week or something now!), at first when Freya moved in, they were a bit cranky at each other, having to share the food since both are big eaters... xD I think it's something similar to that behavior you mentioned, Goldiegirl

It subsided a lot after the fist two weeks or so, so they're pretty used to each other now c:

thats great to hear things are a bit better Nossie. I will keep my eye on the behaviour of the ryukins, it does not seem to be aggressive and it only starts once the food is all gone, and it only happens now and then... to me it looks like a bit of "love behaviour" or some sort of smooching... I will keep you posted if I notice anything else, thanks for your thoughts Goldie and Nossie...
and yes Nossie, my posting is a bit sporadic at the moment, I have a lot of images to process and that is a big time burglar... let us know how the fish go with the Cryptocoryne plants, the ryukins have a go at everything I plant, so ones they dont like are high on the preference list for me...

So far so good with them plants... I think I'll go buy some more next week if they'll still be uneaten by then Wink

Fun note: I got a nice tank from a friend yesterday! Cheesy

I think it's roughly 70 liters (got lamp, two filters, gravel and some ornaments with it = BARGAIN!!) I wonder where to put it... I bet the platies would love to move in there...

I know! D: I saw this tall plastic plant lately, basically just pretty stiff grass-like leaves glued to a flat board covered with fake rocks (just a few inches wide) and this abomination cost 30€?! I DON'T THINK SO! D8<
I generally prefer natural ornaments anyway, but even rocks and pebbles are pretty pricey...

yeah, whats up with that, I see other ornaments etc for the home at cheapy shops made out of resin and they are half the price or even less than that... also I find that the larger pebbles are cheaper at the local plant nursery... my family and neighbours know me too well, they are always bringing me strange rocks they find that I mainly use in my bonsai's, but yesterday Jules bought me a beauty of a rock from her creek and it matches the ones in my tank... on that note would bleach be best to clean and sanitise it before rinsing and putting it in my tank , would appreciate your thoughts... cheers

I think bleach is a good thing to use, yes. Most people I know of use that for cleaning out their quarantine systems
