New gold fish babies!!!
«

I had traveled today, and now am in the town where my goldies are. As soon as I arrived, I rushed to the tank to see them, when I noticed baby goldies!
this is the second time. My mother wanted to take 2 of them, and by my best guess, one is a common, and the other is a shubkin
. Both are currently in a large metal drum, waiting transportation.
They are 1cm long.

Caught a few more babies... they are now in a smaller tank( I think...) and will be taken back and put with my other goldies 4 after they grow. Later, the other 4 goldies will be brought back here to join my big fat goldies...

Ah fair enough, as long as the tank is a decent size, say 4 or 5 foot in length, which should be fine for a few juvenile goldfish as a temporary home
But if you've already got 4 goldfish in that tank? You would need a massive tank to be able to house 8 goldfish properly, even if they are small.
They'd possibly be better off left in the pond if you don't have enough tank space.
I may have mentioned this once before, but I have one goldfish in a 3 foot/90 litre tank and I could only add one more goldfish and even then, the tank size would need upgrading, once they'd grown.

The babies had a bumpy 5hr road trip and have arrived 2 days ago. the big drum somehow managed to fit in the car. As for the other 4 i have here, I will that them take to join the pond goldies. Just to be clear:
The town Where my school is:
4 goldfish in a tank(had a fight with my mom... I insisted on 2 goldies she insisted on 4....)
3 baby goldies in a big drum(once again same result...)
The town I go for the holdays:
9 goldies+unknown no. of babies
So by my best guess, there are 2 commons, and 1 Shubkin(I know they need more tank space, but my mom insisted as she had kept many goldies in her childhood without any prob...)

will check and tell...
The baby golds have grown a little bit and have already learnt that if I appear, they will get food.
They are smart too.... I was removing dust from the water, the shubkin went to a leaf and started nibbling it as if to remind me to feed them...

By calculation that tank is only 75 litres, I'm afraid it isn't big enough for goldfish as a permanent home, they will be much better off in your pond.
If your mum would like to keep fish, then we can make recommendations for her, of fish that would be suitable to her tank size. Goldfish however is not one of them, but there are tons of options for her! She could have (for example) tropical fish if she added a heater and she could keep a nice number of these in her tank
Has she seen the size of your adult goldfish in the pond? These fish can grow to quite a size as I'm sure you're aware and keeping them in tanks that are too small, will stunt their growth. I would hate to cause any arguments between you both, but perhaps speak to her about keeping other fish? Are there any types that you think would interest her? Perhaps we could find something similar to goldfish that she'd like?

Ok, I am the one who wants goldies, and she is the one who wants so many... I think maybe I will try to move these 4 and the 3 babies to the goldies in the pond, the next chance I get.
I really really like goldies, and I don't think any other type of fish can replace them.

That's understandable, if your mum would like lots of fish, I'm sure we can find something!
So let's have a think... what is it about goldfish you guys like? Perhaps we can find a similar fish to fit the bill!

I like their behaviour... The usual silly behaviour, the things they do, their acitvity, just about every thing goldies do...

Hmm okay, have you considered turning the tank tropical? You could keep khuli loaches?

I'm always enchanted by these little guys when I seem them at aquatic stores!
You could always look at this website (
Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.
) , fill in your tank/filtration details and click 'Display only suitable species for your tank' and it will give you a massive list of species you can happily keep in that tank, that will not outgrow it like the goldfish will
So as soon as you can take the goldfish back to the pond

Last week, the 4 goldies caught a 6 hr ride to join the pond goldies. They are currently in quarantine. they seem to have picked up some parasites from the fish shop. They are 0.5cm big, maybe bigger, circular, transparent, spotty with a triangular tail and have legs like that of a shrimp. I suspect they killed the babies after i introduced them to the adults(one seemed hurt or something, so I thought the warmth of the indoor tank would be good. the babies and the adults got along fine).
Then these parasites,(i noticed only then) had made baby parasites which weakened and killed all 3
.
My mother made my to come to a fish shop(i finally convinced her the tank is too small for goldies...) and made me choose a pair of fish... I took a pair of fish hoping that the tank is big enough. The fish seller told they are blue orts or something(they are BLUE).
Out of the 4 goldies, only 3 survived. The seller was informed about the parasites and suggested a medicine which my grand mother later added to the tank in 2 doses(nothing to do with the dead goldie which i burried in my garden hoping that the dogs dont get at it) and i will be releasing them to join the other goldies during the Christmas hols if they are clean. the tank they are in now is a bit larger than the glass they were in here, but other goldies grew well there and hundreds of babies followed in those tanks, so i guess these 3 can manage for 2 months...

You've made a great effort so far
It was a great job to quarantine them, they'll be fine in the tank, plus the 2 month time, will allow you to ensure the parasites are gone before introducing them to pond
Sorry to hear about the little ones you lost though
Blue Orfes? I can't imagine anyone selling orfes for a tank, they grow even bigger than goldfish
I'm trying to think what else it could be? Blue Danios perhaps?
