New goldfish owner

I am a newbie to the goldfish world. I have had tropical fish for the past 30 years, after seeing some beautiful fancy goldfish I thought i'd give them a try. I have a 29gallon tank,  about two weeks ago I purchased a Redcap Oranda and a Calico Fantail.
I have a few questions and need help please?!?
I have read that you should not keep hollow decorations in the tank because of the stagnet water they hold, is this true?
I have also read that goldfish need a place to hide, is this true? ( I have seen pictures of goldfish tanks with next to nothing in them and I'm very confused).
My next question, I purchased some Amazon leaf plants, which seem to be doing well, what other live plants can I use with my goldfish?

well if the hollow decorations are near the water flow then it should be ok,
Yes gold fish as well as other fish love nooks and cranies to hide in, its a safety thing and it also provides cover from the sun,
well if you doesn't really matter though but they love cover
you can use the plants that a pet store have in them

the hollow aquarium decorations are more important when you're dealing with saltwater fish. no circulation= no oxygen. The bacteria that turns nitrate into sulfates thrive in environments that have no circulation such as deep sand beds. or muddy bottoms. You will recognize the smell because it's similar to rotten eggs. or sulfur.
anyway, i've never had this problem with freshwater fish. I suppose fresh water is less dense and circulation is easier than saltwater.
