Red Cap is missing an eye!!

Was just feeding my 2 goldfish when I saw that the Red Cap is missing and eye! The socket is totally empty and there is a little bit of "skin" hanging off which looks like it used to hold the eye in place! Its pretty noticeable so I'm sure its only just happened today. The fish doesn't look in any kind of distress and seems to be swimming normally.
What could this be!?

Goldfish, such as the ryukin,  will sometime attack and bite off the eyes of orandas or fish that are smaller in size.   If you suspect that's the case than i would separate the injured fish from the healthy one so it doesn't happen again.

Also make sure there are no sharp objects, such as decorations,  in the tank that could damage their eyes when they are swimming around.

 i would like to know how your oranda is doing now. i have a black moore that lost both its eyes about 6 weeks ago and has adjusted very well and is thriving, it no longer bumps into anything ( of course i make sure not to move anything ) and has learned to feed on the bottom. he seems to have grown very fond of his other tank mates. Roll Eyes
