NEW TANK FOR OUR TROPICAL COMMUNITY, with new pics now
« on: August 29, 2010, 05:51:35 PM »

Hello Everybody,

here is our new tank cycling, all set up: AquaOne 620T holds about 140 l

We plan to have Platies, Mollies, Guppies, Rummy Nose Tetras, 1 Bristlenose and maybe move Cory and Dora in there too  Grin

As I mentioned in another post, the 20 l tank we planned first for 10 guppies only, we decided to keep as a Q-tank.

Thanks Andiy,

we got 3 tanks going and 2 small ones are left empty to be used as Q-tanks.
The 150+ l with our 5 goldfish,
the 34 l with 1 fighter, 10 Neons and 2 corys
and then this new one waiting now for fish to be added  Grin

the ship wreck decor we got at Petstock Australia, but you may have a look at ebay?

I love it. Hanna you are queen of decorating tanks. I just don't have that skill and everything always seems to go everywhere Tongue I have a question though. How would you siphon a tank like this? Looks a bit hard with the decorations.

Thanks Andrea, you welcome to copy it Grin

I know, I will transform my arms into octopus arms, LOL

We need to buy a longer siphon and siphon the empty spots only.
Hubby and me watched a DVD about fish keeping and it was very informative.
As plants need Nitrates and that matter you only should siphon where there are NO plants, not going too close to the plants roots.

Oh, live bearers C: Hard and alkaline water for all of them it seems, just like the goldies Cheesy Maybe it's easier to keep the water the same in the two bigger tanks?

Hey, I have a question for you! How do you manage to get the poster on the back of your tank so bright?
I just taped the corners (and a bit of the sides) to the aluminium frame on the back of my tank, and it looks so dark and dull :C

I taped it all way round, left nothing untaped to avoid it bubbling.
But it also may be the light ?

Hm, I see. Funny that there are no bubbles o_O Hey wait! Maybe the poster is a bit far away from the glass because of that aluminium edge? It's not thicker than 1mm, but I might need to but the poster smaller to fit the back glass better.

1mm away shoudn't matter as it is the same on our tank here.
I taped first the top corners, then the top. Then the middle of one side and between top corner and middle... and worked my way around with smaller bits of tape

Thank you meashaw, wasn't thst hard to set up, hubby discovered the ship wreck in the deco department. Sometimes our platies must have a party inside the wreck, as like today I came home from Brisbane and my hubby said that he hasn't seen those fish the whole time he was home , he coudn't see half of the lot.

Thanks Mindemae, it isn't that hard, keep the gravel sloped and put the taller plants at the back, the short ones in the middle and coverplants at the front. Place some rocks, stones, wood a bit asymetrically and you are right.
SURE YOU MAKE A BEAUTIFUL SET UP, TOO Wink

You make it sound so easy Hanna. But once water is involved it just falls apart and it doesn't work out like yours Tongue

Andrea: Not if you put in the gravel, plants and rocks before you pour in the water, and then pour it on a plate or a piece of big decor like driftwood or rock Smiley

Oh, and it's important to have 3-5cm layer of gravel to make sure it all sticks to where it should be! xD As in, the plants being deep enough to stay in place Wink

Most live bearers breed at least once a month and then give birth to around 60-500 babies d: You'll have a lot of work with those Wink
