HAHAHA THE FISH CHANNEL...THAT'S FUNNY
Awww...it must be fun to take care of the babies. I have no livebearers in my tropical tank.
I gotta take some pictures of the tropical tank.

OK, guys, took some more pics, see the feeding frenzy and some lill ones in the breeding tank ( geez, just cleaned it 2 days ago, must do it again today
) also some lill ones in the big tank, impossible to catch as they live in the ship wreck and come out when there is baby-food coming down for them.

LOL, Minde, got 4: the goldfish tank, the big tropical tank, Yoyo's tank and Barbarossa's tank.
We took Barbarossa out of his initial home after Yoyo thought his tail is edible and set the 20l one up for him.
The old 3ft is not set up yet for the plants, will do it next week, as I must work on Sat & Sun.

It looks so beautiful!
But you are aware that the breeding tank is meant to hold the gravid female in the top section so that the fry can swim down into the bottom? That way you wouldn't need to catch them
But I understand if you bought it after the fish were making babies that you had to catch them.

Lovely Hanna
So many bright fishies, you make me want a tropical tank but I really don't have the time
And I don't want to get another tank until I move out so one day.

Yes I know, lol, we bought it after that and so we didn't use the double bottom. It is also said that the female can be too much stressed in the fry tank and may die. I don't want this to happen either. And they are smart, those females, they got their birth room in the ship and stay there until the little ones are born, haha

This is such a gorgeous tank Hanna! And look at all those 'grandfish' you have now
You've got your own little circle of life going on right in your living room ♥ Beautiful just beautiful. I am wondering if by chance you don't also have lots of little gifts wrapped up under the tree around the holidays...I've got 7 tiny socks I hang along the fireplace - one for each bird and now I'll be adding another for wee Tailer too this year

Thanks, April, lol this is so cute, I think I 'd need about 100 tiny socks, lol and fill them with flakes, pellets, etc....
5 socks for our goldies
18 socks for the 34 l tank
9 socks for the 20 l tank
2+2+13+13=30 + x babies
______________________
total = (62 + x) socks
.... and this is only for the fishies.... for our wild birds I will fill baskets, instead of socks, lol
Wonder how many socks Minde would need, hahaha, lets get everybody on here to calculate their need of socks
Just a shame there is no "underwater-X-mas-tree" for our fishies available....

Socks! Hahaha! I did see a xmas stocking with a Betta on it.
Well let's see...I bet Hanna you have way more fish than I do now!
But I certainly beat you in guinea pigs!
3 dogs
1 cat
4 bettas
20 goldfish
12 tropicals
60 guinea pigs
Gee, exactly 100! LOL!
So we don't do the sock thing. They just get extra treats at holiday time!
The dogs each have a sock that I hang on the fireplace mantle. we fill them with chewies, treats and a new toy.
The cat gets a can of food and a toy filled with catnip or a furry mouse toy.

Hanna you are so funny! I like this sock-a-palooza event you've gotten started. I think your poor hands would ache terribly if you knit that many socks for the fishies but so cute
As for the underwater Christmas tree, I'm gonna search online to see if any exist. Since it started snowing here tonight I lot of people have been talking about that wonderful time of year
Ya know we'd make a killing if we invented one that could be plugged in and submersible. A Dragon's Den episode perchance? Just think of the millions of tanks out there in the world
I will look for a pic I took of the socks hung on the mantle, it was so cute as my Mom came over and filled each one of them with a special seed treat for all of them ♥ Mr. Tailer has already made his list and 'finned' over it twice!

LOL, April, you are right, I better buy some for our fishies and maybe a few bigger ones, as "community-socks", lol and will fill them with al fishie goodies
Yeah, snow already in Canada. I remeber the laast holidays we had it started to snow in middle of October there at Lake Peyto, but going past Abraham Lake towards Sylvan Lake it was a clear blue sky, some patches of snow, and the golden trees, some deer and then the noise of the wild Canadian geese.
Here we're coming into summer, 27 cels here today.

Community socks - lmao! this made my day
sounds like a gorgeous day there. What are the temps during your winter season Hanna? We had it pretty easy last winter here. The year before was insane for snowfall and one storm dropped 3 feet in 48 hours. Was absolutely beautiful but nearly impossible to move around. Thank goodness for a thoughtful neighbour and his mighty snowblower or my back would've given out shovelling that!

Winter here during midday it is average about 19-22 cels, nights can be freezing about 4-0 cels average.
During summer we can have it as hot as 36 cels, but hardly more, average is about 28 to 30.
And the beach 10 min away

Oh Hanna where you live sounds so nice! Our winter is normally alot colder and our summer hotter but that is because I am about 40 minutes away from the coast
I've been up to Queensland in April and it was heaven.
How do you keep your goldfish tank cool in that weather by the way? Mine is currently 25 degrees and it isn't even summer yet.

Ours is about 25 cels now too, I keep the time down when the light is on because it started to heat up to 28 cels.
just realized it the other day.
I did a waterchange with cooler water. Eventually when it will get warmer I may use icecubes in a bag floating in front of the powerhead.
Didn't have fishies last summer, so this will be a new experience with the temp. Also hoping the fan will keep everything cooler

The winters here easily go to -35 degrees d: Happy days!!
Either way, the summers are usually pretty nice too, up to 35+ when you're unlucky
So my fish had it pretty warm in their tanks last summer.. >> But I was keeping the windows open for the wind and changed the water with something a little bit colder
I don't remember exactly how warm their water was in the end, but I think it was pretty close to 27 degrees >>
Now I keep it on a 25 average
And in that big tank it won't be allowed to change too easily

Great tank Hannah
Where did you get the little plastic tank for the baby fish from?
One of my minnows must have laid eggs because there are lots of little fishies in the tank
I don't want them to be eaten, so that seems like a good idea

I shall pop in to my LFS tomorrow, hopefully they will have them.
Some of my fry are like 2mm long :O would they get out of that hatch tank?
Thanks
Congratulations on yours too
This is my first time at having grandfish lol its so exciting.
I have only found like 10 fry but I'm sure there would be many more! A lot of them have probably been eaten too

Awwwww they are tiny little glass-commas so cute. No, they will be fine in that hatch tank, just talk to the staff there. There are different hatch tanks available, some just made of a frame and nice soft mesh arround it. This may be better as they are sooooo small.
Yes it is very exciting to have grandfish.
The first time when it happened to us I rang hubby on the phone to bring baby food. He said "WHAT?" and I explained that we got babies, I was going nuts when I first discovered them, my brain was steaming, lol.
But unfortunately you just cannot avoid that some of the fry gets eaten

Ok great hopefully they have what I am looking for then!
I was about to do a water change! So lucky that I noticed them before I tipped the bucket of water onto the grass.
Its weird because I have found one fry that is much bigger than the rest. He is nearly a cm long and has bright blue eyes, the rest are tiny.
Hahaha yes I did the exact same thing lol. I called my boyfriend to tell him the exciting news lol.
I took photos but they are so small that they didn't really come out very well lol.
Yeah there is probably plenty more in the tank. But they are just so hard to see atm
I have lots of plants in the tank so they can hide and I blocked off the filter with some stocking so they cant get sucked up into it. I actually found about 5 inside my filter
Luckily they were all okay.
If you don't mind me asking. How much did you pay for your tank and stand not including accesories, plants etc. ?
Because it looks like my 40L is going to be way too small to accommodate all these little ones.

No worries, all together we payed AU$ 600,- with cabinet, tank (140l) heater, filter, filtermedia, CD, some chemicals, 20kg gravel and other small bits and pieces They had an offer at PetStock, like a package.
And as you can see, it is heavy planted too, so plenty of hiding space. maybe you already had babies in the past and the lill ones are another batch, lol
Did you get baby food, like Vipan Baby or Liquifry?

Ahk thats pretty good because it comes with everything you need
Maybe there was two batches, but theres only one larger one so the rest must have not survived
I haven't bought any baby food yet as this all happened tonight when the shops were closed. I am going shopping tomorrow morning to buy baby supplies. They seriously need a 24 hour aquarium shop for these sort of emergencies! lol.

It was a pretty good deal, do you have PetStock in your area? Otherwise you can check on their website and look it up in their store locator.
I know this feeling when you just cannot go and get what you need in case of emergency. Do you have some freeze dreid brine shrimp? You could just grind it to tiny particles and feed for now.
But when you'll go tomorrow to buy baby food there is also frozen baby brine shrimp available, the fry will love it

I just looked online and there are actually 2 pet stocks in my area! I have never been there. Are they much better than pet shops like pet barn in terms of aquarium goods?
I don't have any food like that. I have goldfish flakes, pellets, algae wafers and seaweed. But I did read that when the fry are that small they eat microorganisms which are in your tank. So I guess that will have to do until tomorrow!

Abbie: You can also just boil some egg and mix up the hard-boiled yolk with a few drops of water and feed that to the fry
Simple, and incredibly nutritious!
Maybe you shouldn't feed all of it at once, but give a bit, depending on how many babies there are!
