Okay -

My brother who has had a 50g tank has talked me into buying a 55g tank.  I currently have a new 14g tank with  3 comets and 1 common. I am so excited to get them a proper size home - but this one comes with a catch.

The catch --- this tank is a "tropical' tank and comes with several fish and all the chemicals/equipment (all for $100). We checked it out and everything is beautiful and working. They are getting rid of it because they are moving.

We are going to be tearing it down and moving it this saturday. Its only 10 minutes away since I live in a super small town.

My brother doesn't think the tropical fish will make it  for the transfer (I figure maybe 2 hours out of the tank with the tearing down/setting up process).

I hate to see these fish die, but I also know that my goldies might not mix with the other fish, let one be happy/healthy in a warm tank.

Any thoughts or suggestions? All comments welcome!




(P.S. the included fish are angelfish, loaches, and tetras)

I am taking a trip to the next town over today and visiting several LFS to see if they will take the fish.

I didn't want to do a tropical fish tank because the thought of a heater is daunting, I don't want to wake up to boiled fish, or cold dead ones.

Not to mention, I am new at this. I read somewhere that a 55g tank was better suited for a beginner, so in a way I want to get the tank, do a fishless cycle then add my goldies. I think trying to keep the other fish will be just too much for me.

I went to three LFSs and none will take the fish, however, I think I'm going to work on my brother to get one of his own and take them. Or I'm listing them in the newspaper (at least the big ones) I might keep the others in the 16 gallon later, but I'd like to use it as a hospital tank, since we are experiencing our first infection due to my ignorance.   

I want the tank for my goldies, now that I'm attached to them. They are such friendly guys (ours are all called boys regardless of what they really are). My daughter with autism is so attached to them too, as they have started recognizing her and swim up to the tank when she watches them (I have her do the evening feeding so they will do this).

oh -  I did check with all the local fish stores within a 50 mile radius (not that many) - none will take the fish, but one has a bulletin board that I could post pictures and my phone number.

Ha!  I have the multi tank syndrome too!
I have 4 tanks going right now!
And a 14 gallon just standing empty just waiting for something to fill it!
I wish you lived closer I would take your tropicals!
