It could be enough with only a few days... just test the water regularly! I missed the nitrites too actually when I cycled my tank last time xD

I tied my plants to rocks with sewing thread, put them into the bottom of the tank half full of water and layed a two inch layer of gravel. Then I tied some more plants to the wood stuff you can buy at the pet store, and arranged that on top of the gravel bed I mentioned. Then I ran the tank for a week and finally added fish.

Three years later, I trade plants and frye for snake food at a local pet store. ROFLOL

Sunshine was a comet, right? If I was you, I'd pick another streamlined fish with long fins, like another comet, or a Bristol shubunkin If she's golden, it could be nice adding a fish with a few different colors, like a calico

Oh yes I am definitely getting a stream lined goldfish, just not sure what type As in another comet and which colour or a shubunkin and which pattern There is so much variety!

Just found two snails in my tank!! I scooped them out with a net and I think I killed one of them, but it was seriously the size of a speck so no wonder  I have the other one in a bit of water from the tank. Not sure what to do with it, it's super cute but EVIL haha Are this things like super snails or something? As obviously it has survived being taking out of the water when I brought the plants for about an hour, then survived the rinsing of the plants and has survived a non-cycled tank. Do they live in any conditions?

Just one other question, as you all know the nitrates in Sunshine's tank is pretty high (40ppm) and the nitrates in the tank tank are pretty low and are still at 5.0ppm. If I put Sunshine in there this weekend will this be a horrible shock to the system? Or a good one? Or won't matter at all? I want the nitrates to get a bit higher but they haven't in a week and I can wait a bit longer but I think the high nitrates in Sunshine's current tank is starting to get to her as I have seen her resting on the bottom of her tank just for a bit!! Ammonia and nitrites are at 0 in both tanks.

Hi Andrea, nice to hear your Sunshine girl will move tomorrow. Do you have a big jug to scoop her out? Would be better than netting, you know, nets can be a bit rough to fins and scales.
So if you can scoop her out with the jug you can add a little of new tank water to it before you let her go into her new home.
She also would adapt easier in case there is a bit a temp or pH difference.
But it is very important to get her out of those Nitrates asap, maybe you do it already tonight.

Oh and with the snails. I found another two in there this morning so instead of stressing about it I am just going to leave them be as I read up on them and snails really do some great things in tanks. Of course it points out the bad side of them which we all know and I will act if that begins to happen with the lettuce trick. However, I have a feeling two goldfish will quickly get through at least some of the snails and their eggs especially if they hang out in the gravel.

Your Goldie will eat the snails, we've never had snail problems in the goldie tank, but we do in the tropical ones. This is why we bought a YoYo-Loach

Sunshine has calmed down and seems to be loving her new home She was a naughty fish who uprooted one of her plants last night though and made leaves go everywhere, but all is forgiven

Everything else is going fine, she had something to eat and gobbled it all down but it did it take her awhile to find it because it is in new spots now.

Photo time I haven’t put the back picture on yet, I need to cut it to fit and I’m not sure whether to put it on or not. I sorta like it without and it seems bigger without. We’ll see.

It's also hard to decide since most fish sold in pet stores are very young c: It's a waste of time trying to gender fish younger than 1-2 years

I was hoping to go for a bigger goldfish, maybe the size of Sunshine so it may be older than 2 years old. Not sure yet though. Oh and Sunshine is still the same size about 8-10cm which brings me to my next question. Do you guys reckon Sunshine will grow in her new tank? She is fours old and has been stuck in small tanks for her life and hasn't grown much in a long time so I hope she isn't stunted

Andrea: I think that she's actually a bit too old to grow much more, besides 10cm isn't that bad And as long as she's been getting enough nutrition and a varied diet, she should've reached pretty good length

Put a goldfish on hold today to pick up tomorrow It's from a little pet shop near me which I've never brought goldfish from but they have great variety but not many actual fish so it's more personal. It's a little black/goldish comet. I've been looking out for one since I found out they actually existed thanks to Hanna and well it can satisfy my want for a black moor until I can get one. It's a cutie so I can't wait to have her/him home with me and to show you guys.

They also had actual gold comet's, they are like a very bright yellow, very interesting but I liked the black one better.
