I love my aqua clear hob.
In the year it has been running I have never had any ammonia readings in my tank and the pH has stayed at about 7.2 Smiley
Very easy to clean and you just need to replace the carbon...the other filter media can just be rinsed in old tank water or warm water if the gunk is hard to get off.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easy to clean reliable filter. Despite what some people on the net might say. My aqua clear is silent...my air pump on the other hand is most definately not Undecided

There is no possible way to cycle a tank "wrong" since all you have to do, is test the water now and then and check how the ammonia and nitrogens are doing Wink The beneficial bacteria do the rest of the work!

About filters, I've got this great external filter that I love Wink It might be suitable for your tank too Smiley It's called Eheim Classic 2217, lots, and lots of space for biological filter media Wink
