I don't know about the plants, but all manner of critters adapt to domestication. Cats and dogs expect us to follow the same routines, that we ourselves have set. I see no reason why goldfish shouldn't have also adapted to having high expectations. Being fed a certain diet and at a certain time is what they expect and when that doesn't happen, it isn't their fault, but ours. I think the biological time clock is inherent in all manner of critters: my cats still come in looking at 6:30 AM, even though day break and when I want to get up, is now much later.

Note that all social creatures take it for granted when we "spoil" them. My fish no longer nibble on the Parrots Feather,  they wait instead for the store bought food. The same is true of cats and dogs, sometimes to such an extant that the owners keep ratcheting up the ante, note the price of many of those gourmet pet foods.

Good points guys! I woke up this morning to see Lucky swimming around the front of the tank, I'm beginning to wonder perhaps she was telling me, it was feeding time

Although at the moment her feeding time varies, due to things that I have going on. She swims up very happily the moment she see's brocolli on the veg clip or my fingers with a flake for her

It looks that way to me too!

For those that don't know, goldfish are natural grazers. Since they don't have stomachs, they can't get full. What happens instead if they eat too much at a time, is that the food that is pushed through is not fully digested. That, of course, leads to dirty water. You can tell if you are overfeeding by looking at the poop.

All of which I didn't know until I Googled it up!

With colder water in my pond, they are slower, but I haven't noticed them not looking for food yet. It seems that they are growing every week, much of that must be what they find.

I think that like us, they find dining to be entertaining and enjoyable. The highlight of my fishes day seems to be when they go look at the cats when they are drinking, it fascinates them. I think they like to see what is going on, I know my cats do. When I was rewiring my breaker box a couple of them were watching.

For those of you with tanks not so brightly lit that the fish can see out, does it seem like the fish are watching?

Lucky loves to look about!

She has a habit of swimming up and down near the sides of the tank or the front, she's simply looking around, what I find interesting is for a while she spent a lot of time on the left hand side of the tank, just looking at the blue wall paper, but recently she's switched and now she spends more time on the right hand side in stead XD (on the right hand side of the tank is a towel and some fishy things like my water test kit/food etc).

It'll be interesting to see if she still acts like this when I move her to the bigger tank, as everything then will be kept in the stand.

What I also find is that sometimes when I talk to her, she will stop, swim over and look right at me
