Thanks Minde and Nossie, yes they are cute, this morning I've seen 4. It is funny that they stay up there in the Bananaplant leaves in tis so shallow water. I may put some more floating plants in there for now.

Here's another pic, basically you can see two little eyes roufghly in the centre of the pic below that sanil. Then 2 Platy babies from the first batch and a bit of Dot and Mickeys behind.

Got this female for the boys, another elegand guppy lady in shiny silver with a summer-sky-blue tail and black cheeta print on it. Her name is Nala.
During our drive home she popped a baby. The little bugger is so brave and a master of hiding and camouflaging just above the gravel.

We also have few more platy girls: Angelique, Paula, Dorothea, Esmeralda, Mimi, Beatrice. Pics will come soon.

Can Guppies live with Goldfish?

Goldfish should be kept as a species, Not in a community tank. Just imagine goldfish growing big up to 12 inch... the adult guppies would be life food for them, not to mention their babies.
There would be no chance for livebearer babies to survive if kept with goldies.
Waterconditions vary a bit too, guppies are tropicals which prefer warmer water, goldies feel better in cooler water.

I never believe to feed other food than the designed one for certain fish species, as their dietary requirements vary

Have your guppies had any more babies recently Hanna?...my minnows are breeding like crazy! I can't keep up with them! In the past 2 weeks I think I have found 4 different lots of fry.
Are you going to give your guppy babies away to the pet shop?

It is the first lot of guppy babies , I counted about a dozen yet. If there will be more, yes we'll trade most back to the pet shop.

But we have about 4 batches of platy babies, the first batch will be ready in a couple of weeks to go to the the pet shop, but I'll keep one of each pattern.
Already spoke to our fish guy. It is a privately owned shop and all his cute fishies are happy and healthy, well looked after.

Aw thats good to know they are going to a shop where they will be well looked after.
I need to talk to my LFS about my minnows because I think 20 fry is too many to keep lol.

Actually, guppies and goldfish thrive in the same temperatures Grin The only problem with keeping them together is that the guppies get eaten right away due to their small size. So they'd have to hide all the time and not be seen anyway.

Conggratulation hanna for your guppies. It's rare for me to see baby guppies  Cheesy

In my place, ussually LFS only sell male guppies. It's hard to find female guppies in LFS.
If we want a female guppy the only way is buy to guppies farm.  Angry

Guppies are smaller and slimmer than Platies, I attach some pics, hopefully the difference in their size is recognizable .

Andiy, here you get both, usually males and females are kept in different tanks, but it happened with our platies that when we started to stock the tank, we only bought 5 out of the male tank... and 2 of the "males" were females ( Blacky (RIP) and Teddy )
So we thought we get females for the guppies too, didn't want the guppy boys to get frustated not to have some girls like the platies do, LOL Grin

Here they're actually mixed and sometimes there are already babies in the tanks! There are certain colored guppy males and females kept separately though Smiley

Oh yes, there is a clear difference haha silly me. How can you tell the difference between a male and female guppy/platy?? As in how do the pet shops? Doesn't sound like they are very good at it Tongue

Hi  Andrea,

You can see the difference with Platies and Guppies in their ventral fin: the female fin is like a triangular sail, the male one more like a pin or finray, called the gonopodium, along this one the males sperm can fertilize the females eggs inside her body, so basically they really mate, lol Cheesy

Additional to this the Guppy females have got a grey body colour and only their fins ( most times the tailfin only has got colour or coloured patterns ) wether the males have got all collours of the rainbow all over their body.

I will browse the pics I've got and see to find some where you can see the difference. Wink

Guppy females tend to grow bigger than the males too! But at most 1cm or two Smiley Females also have smaller dorsal fin and sometimes caudal fin, in proportion to the body.

Just thought I'd add that Smiley
