i posted recently about my orandas tail,,the veins in her tail are quite red and has a few damaged edges,,shes in an isolation tank at the minute,,ive been treating with melafix and aquarium salt aswell as doing small water changes as i was advised to keep her water clean,,its been 3 days now and her tails still the same,,should i just be a bit more patient,,shes still her happy self,,,could this have been ammonia burns as she was in a tank that was still cycling,,the tank shes in just now is only 18L but id love to see her back in my bigger tank now that its finished its cycling.

Anne,
Can you post any pictures? If not, you may want to hold off putting her in the bigger tank and feed her a medicated fish food. It's hard to tell without seeing. It could be a bacterial infection and may need an oral antibiotic such as tetracyline or furanace. I use a product by Jungle. Feed only the medicated fish food and nothing else as directed on the package. Hope your fish feels better soon.

Try treating with tetracycline.. I dont know why the melafiz wouldnt work though.. Melafix is like a miracle med for fish... It looks maybe like you have Septicemia.. but I can't be sure. Are there ulcers on the body as well?

Just wondering... did you check your water for nitrates? High nitrates can make the tail look just like this, with the red veins being visible and make the fish lethargic, with lack of strength or will to swim around. It's VERY dangerous for the immune system. So I wouldn't be surprised if your fish has a bacterial disease to boot. (Ammonia looks different, it rather causes the fish to get black spots.)
I pretty strongly think that this is your problem, so get a water test for nitrates and see how it is. The symptoms use to show around 50 PPM, but the nitrates should ideally be 0. Already small changes to the better in this parameter should make your fish a bit better already! You could keep treating with salt and melafix while the fish is recovering, just to be on the safe side (:
If the nitrates are the problem, maybe you should try to get a better filter for your hospital tank? And possibly for the bigger one if that's where it started. Or it could be the feeding that's the problem. How often do you feed your fish?
A footnote: My white fantail had developed a few red spots of veins on her fins, and the one on her dorsal went away as soon as I changed the water, just after a few hours. And the spot on her pectoral fin stayed there for a few days but it was completely gone when I came back from my parents' house. I think the nitrates were lowered so much because I wasn't feeding them for 6 days

Aww, she's a beauty!
But she may have a bacterial infection as well, a bit of fin rot.
I would keep up with the salt and melafix, in clean water and feed her medicated fish food.
Good luck!

I cannot give you better advise than Mindemae and Nossie and as I see you done all they suggested.
If you do not have an airstone yet, you may invest in one.
I hope your fishy will be fine soon

Patience and observation is half the battle when dealing with a sick fish actually... just keep an eye on her and let her rest and I'm sure your fish will be healthy soon again! (:

Happy to hear your fishy is doing well, and yes I think it is a good idea to keep her for another week in the hospital tank untill ALL is well with her.
Did you get an airstone yet?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA yea I get that with Sonorus too. She seems to think the bubbles are her own personal spa lol It's cute when I have them on full blast and Sonorus gets all in there and floats up with the bubbles.

Tiger's a bit shy. He prefers swmming round the plants and stuff and basically stays near Sonorus, but doesnt get so involved
