Indeed it could be the swim bladder out of whack. Fishfriend, I had this happen to my goldfish and his balance was restored. However, I had to repeat treatment for several days before reintroducing soaked sinking pellets NOT FLAKES. Because the flakes sit on the surface each time he would take in more air and throw everything out of balance again. It is different for each fish but I didn't starve mine, I just started feeding thawed frozen peas ONLY (shell removed with the split pieces squished in between your fingers) at every feeding. Approx. 2 -3 peas 2 times throughout the day and evening. Please check out the first thread under name 'FOR ALL NEWBIES, please read before you ask for help' and post back with all the results of your water conditions, how long you've had your tank up and running and so on. In order to offer most effective advice, we need to know these numbers. Thanks and welcome to the forum

Minde: So do I Sometimes it's plain annoying thinking that "IF I ONLY HAD THAT KIND OF MEDICINE I MIGHT HAVE HELPED!! " But really, it's all a learning experience in the end, not to mention that NOW, I have that kind of medicine, and NOW I know how to deal with it all if anything similar would happen to me again! In other words, I do value all the things. Nothing happens without some kind of reason or "useful" consequence. (Argh, I really do need another goldfish setup... I need to find more orandas D8) fishfriend: I agree with previous posters But I'd like to add, that if he's been like this for long, you may also want to buy some Epsom salt, (aka magnesium sulfate) it can be bought in the pharmacy and is relatively cheap (I got a kilogram for 15€). You then dose this at a rate of 1/4 teaspoon per gallon (right, Minde??) to make it spread better in the tank, I'd dissolve the correct amount of salt in a small cup/bucket of tank water and pour it in close to the filter outtake I would recommend a set of water tests (pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate) followed by a 50-70% water change before you add the salt. Just in case, it may be an idea not to feed your fish for a day or two before you start giving them defrosted, shelled peas, as described I would like to know what you usually feed your fish? If it's only flakes, stop it. Buy some good quality staple pellet instead, these fish are so big that the flakes are just annoying for them to eat anyway, they swallow too much air Supplement this diet with live foods, such as frozen blood worms/shrimp, or freeze-dried tubifex, shrimp, blood worms... and add some veggies to their diet a few times a week They love peas and zucchini for example! You can also try lettuce and paprika

Re: Now I Need Help Please! UPDATE ON CALI

Cali is still swimming in there! All redness and red streaks are gone from her body and fins! I do a water change today and am using something different, a water condtioner that has methylene blue in it. Her fins are still shredded terribly. I'm going to repeat the antibiotic water treatment and continue with the antibiotic fish food 2 X's a day and then the Aqueon granules mixed into Tetracycline HCL 1X's a day. I will also add another dose of The Kordon fish Protect with the echineacea and Vit B 12 in it. I decided to eliminate the salt since the first ingredient in the water condtioner and the water treat antibiotics is sodium chloride. At the end of this week if Cali is still swimming I will post new pictures of her. She eats like a horse! And I think she has grown in just the few days I've had her!
