Ah ok, sorry about that Smiley Try to do water changes in the day, I know your stressed out at the moment, so it will make you feel better if you do them during the day. How is your other fish going? I hope the fishie, you and your sister are doing better.

Just done a water test, the results are:  ph 6.6, Ammonia 0.50ppm   Nitrite 0ppm    Nitrate 0ppm.     Not sure why it is still like this, I have done another water change and added "Nutrafin Cycle" a  Biological Aquarium Supplemant. i have purchased some aqrium salt, do i use that at  all?

Nutrafin Cycle is beneficial bacteria. You MUST add it as your tank isn't cycled at all. Use salt as per instructions.
Nutrafin cycle you can add the doubble dose at this stage, it won't hurt.

Do you have waterconditioner too? It is sth different and for different purpose than Nutrafin Cycle.

The test results will tell you which stage of the cycle you're at.

The pH is low because your aquariums waste system built up so much that your eco-system crashed.  All the good bacteria died and left your fish swimming in sewage water with high ammonia. What is the normal pH of your water? Just by doing water changes it should adjust and by your tank cycling and you adding the beneficial bacteria to your filter media, it should come up by itself.  With the ammonia being so high it is good the pH is lower, makes the ammonia a bit less toxic for your fish.

Ruth, you really should read the ALL articles available on this site: (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)

It explains about the Nitrogen Cycle too.
If the test results show Ammonia but no Nitrites and Nitrates your tank is not cycled.
If there is Ammonia but lower and Nitrites start to show it is a progress in cycling towards the middle of the cycle.
When readings are 0 for Ammonia and Nitrites but Nitrates are present ( ideally no more than 40ppm, better less ) then your tank is cycled and safe for fish. pH should be right too.

I think everyone has answered your questions Smiley Please don't worry about ph, it is the least of your worries. If you did a water change yesterday, I would do another one tomorrow. Keep doing one every second day or every day until you see no ammonia, it may take over a week but it is very important. Don't touch your filter media, only clean that when it is really necessary and only half at a time!

I'm glad your other fishie is doing better and so are you for Christmas Cheesy Have you named the fish yet?

He WILL eat loads eventually Smiley He's just sick now so it's understandable that he doesn't eat much for now Smiley

By the way, my fantails weren't that interested in food when they were younger either, I fed them and they ate, but they weren't even close to as mad as they are now Wink They can just hear me walking by and they come to feeding corner like maniacs Smiley

Yeah, I agree with Nossie, don't worry about feeding hinm too much right now.....just offer once a day or every other day until your tank is cycled.
I had a fish that didn't eat for 2 weeks when he was sick and he is swimmingly fine now. Smiley
