Your tank isn't even big enough for once shubunkin! Every goldfish should have a tank size of 20 gallons minimum, later you add 10 gals per goldfish in larger systems. So these would need a 30-40 gallon tank. The shubnkins would grow to be a foot long and live for 20 years or more if they survive this. So the tank is the main problem, please start looking for a bigger aquarium asap. And nothing smaller than a 30 gallon if you want to keep all the goldfish.

Next, your nitrates are awfully high. This is due to the overcrowding and insufficient water changes.
The nitrates should always stay below 40ppm, anything higher will make your fish sick, as you see now. Earlier, people believed that the nitrates had to be 400 before the goldfish were harmed, but even a little bit of it (40ppm) will harm their immune system and make them susceptible to infection and infestation.

Do you have a gravel vacuum?? Here's a thread with info on how they look and how to use them: (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
Do a large water change of at least 75% in your tank to get the nitrates down and add stress zyme by API, or a similar product with every water change. Stress zyme is beneficial bacteria on a bottle and will help handling the huge amounts of waste these goldfish generate. After this, change every single week, and take out 50% of the water and give the gravel a good vacuum.

This should help your goldie get better as the red fins are nothing but symptoms of bad water quality, I'm glad they're all active Smiley

Please keep us posted, and try to find them a bigger tank asap!

I will do that today!

I am getting a bigger tank soon, I thought my goldfish (theres only one goldfish, but the two other different fish in there with it) would be okay till then since its small, but this is not true? xD i am new to fish and am glad to have found this site.

my shubunkin's about 2 or three inches, i dunno if water magnifies fish or not... should i just give him away? it might be a few weeks before i get the bigger tank set up.

i have a gravel vac! i will use it more often! [:

thank you for all your information!!!!

Not true at all Smiley One goldfish will grow surprisingly fast! But since just one of them is a goldfish, he'll be okay until you'll have the new tank Smiley I had my first three goldfish in a ten gallon for about six months, and they're growing happily in their 83 gal now Wink

What are the other two fish? Most tropicals won't go well with a goldfish, since they might get eaten and of course because they have different water quality requirements Smiley So it may be an idea to keep the other two fish in the 10 gallon while the Shubunkin moves to the bigger tank, how big would that be by the way?

Good to hear about the shubunkins fins!

Also I believe you mentioned the other two fish were a catfish and pleco? I haven't had much experience with those, but I'm sure Nossie or another member could advice you about those, I imagine for now though they'll be fine in the 10 gallon Smiley

What size tank are you thinking of getting for the shubunkin? He is certainly a cute fish Wink

Really? Wow, learn something new everyday! Thanks for the advice fantailer, as I mentioned I don't have any experience with them.
I imagine catfish must grow pretty big? I know with Pleco sizes it depends on the breed!

Well, my catfish hasn't grown at all. My pleco is definitely growing. I am relocating all of them to a 55 gallon.

My guppies were eaten by our goldfish, happened sort of like, one day they were there and the next they weren't Wink

Do you have any idea exactly what type this pleco or catfish would be?
Among plecos their sizes differ incredibly, and it would be good to know just how big these fish would grow before you'd get a tank for them to be sure they'd all be comfortable Smiley

Plecos depending on their breed, will grow fairly large. If you have a clown pleco, they wont get very big, & if you do have clowns & are getting a 55 will need 2 clowns. If you have a common pleco watch out, cause he will get at least 24" that is really  huge for a 55. I have a sunshine pleco in a 60 which he really needs min 70 gallons, but he will only get to about 10" Which is still pretty big for a 60 gallon tank. If you have a pet  store close by, sometimes they will have x large plecos, look to see & see how big an 8" pleco is. That will give you an idea about, how the pleco will look in a 55. Also be careful about your breed of pleco, they can be aggressive to other fish, & some are meat eaters, so do a little research, about your diffrent plecos. As far as the catfish, he might be a Pictus, & he will only get maybe 6". The shubunkin is looks really nice, great fish!!  Grin

(Sorry, might have missed that, I only reacted on the "3 fish"-part.)

An upside-down catfish must mean a synodontis, and these would feel better in small schools, a group of 4-5 fish or so.
Like this one:

This is what appeared when I googled "Yellow pleco" (I have never heard of a breed like that??), so I'll assume you're describing your fish?

But if this is how it looks, you can be safe, because this is an Ancistrus, which won't grow very big, but they again enjoy company of three individuals or so. (the largest ancistrus I've seen was about 4-5 inches).

However, you'll need to upgrade the tank if you want to keep all these fish happy and healthy, since you chose pretty social species (and the shubunkin shouldn't be in anything this small since it's a long-bodied fish and he needs space to swim.)

lol make sure your pleco is an ancistrus (bristlenose) and not a common pleco or he will get gigantic (18-24 in. long) and you don't want him to be crammed into a tank that's too small for him  Sad. p.s. plecos are sooooo cute<3 i want one  Grin
