I've heard when picking Ranchu's one should try and pick the most prober one, as one that is bred slightly wrong may not be very strong. I guess that is true for most fish
But it seemed to be more important according to this person with Ranchu's.

I've always been afraid to buy a fish without a dorsal fin. They just seem so delicate.
They are cute, but I guess I will stick to my hearty, robust orandas!

When I bought these Ranchus in our LFS they were in the tank labeled as Baby Ryukin.
