What other kinds of fish can live with goldfish? Can sucker fish? And how many fish per gallon?

None, well I wouldn't recommend it at all! Sucker fish can easily get attached to a goldfish and suck all their natural slime coat off resulting in some bad sores/infection/death! Goldfish need 40 litres or 10 gallons per fish

Andrea is right.
NO other fish with goldfish. They are supposed to be kept in a species tank. It is also recommended to keep fast swimmers only with their kind ( long and stramlined shaped body ) like Comets and Common and slow swimmers ( egg shaped boddies ) with their kind only.
And no suckerfish at all as they suck the goldfishes slime of their body and leave it with sores, prone to infections ( bacterial, viral, fungal ) which can result in death.
Yes, min 10 gal per goldfish, as they grow very quick, up to 12 inch.

If you ask What other kinds of fish can live with goldfish? IMO, peacefull fish can be keep together with GF.
In my experiance, I have keep goldfish with angel, guppy, blue gourame and honey gourame and black ghost and it's ok
the problem is fish food, because some fish like live food and live food is not recomended for gf. Its to risky.
But i'm not recomended you to follow me, because i already separete them in different tank, Andrea and Hanna was right. Just keep gf with its own kind. Its alot easier to take care.

You can keep mollies, some swordtails....
actually, you could keep anything you want AS LONG AS YOU CHECK THEIR WATER QUALITY REQUIREMENTS AND TEMPER BEFORE BUYING.
Naturally, very small fish shouldn't be kept with goldies since they'll be eaten.
And please avoid plecos and other suckermuths.

I don't recommend doing this, I still believe goldies are best kept in a species tank.
IF sbdy keeps them with other fish, only like Nossie suggested, they should have the same environmental requirements, AND should only be kept like this with an "old, experienced fox" in fish keeping. Trouble is the different nutritional requirements.
All this regarded, I say again "NO"

Also goldfish are very messy compared to most species of fish.
Goldfish are cold water fish and therefore prefer to be kept in cooler temperatures. They can be kept in low tropical temperatures but this decreases their immune level and makes them more susceptible to diseases, infections etc. Yeah it can be done but it is more work for you and it does increase the chance of your fish getting sick.
So for these reasons I do not recommended it. Goldfish should only be kept with goldfish, for their sake and the other fish's sake

It actually IS easy to keep goldfish along with others as long as you feed them all the different kinds of foods they need. In mom's tank we're always feeding everyone with goldfish pellets, tropical flakes and algae wafers. All the fish have been kept alive for years!
But, it is only easier to keep a tank only for goldfish, that way you'll only have to care for their needs and their nutrition
Besides, goldfish can sometimes get diseases from other coldwater/tropical fish that aren't harmful to either but goldfish. Which obviously is a problem.

Yeah I understand Nossie, I would just never do it
If I could keep a bristle nose with my goldfish I would do that but I wouldn't risk it and I'm not even sure if they have the same water quality needs
I just want a bristle nose

Yeah... all those cute fishies out there... we've been to another pet shop today, realized it is there just the other day... tell you, they have the most gorgeous bettas in there, colours I've never seen before: golden creamy, light rose with pink and dark purple, iridescent blue and green, copper, ... oh wow, if I would have the room, I'd get half a dozen more...

Hi Abbie, yes Hubby and me plan to go there... Fishchick or Annerley Aquariums are the same, lol
We talked about that one on our last Aquaholic meeting, last Sunday. With a few other Aquaholics we'll make the fish tour sightseeing arround Brissie, lol
But thanks for posting anyway

Just making sure because it would be a shame if you didn't, seeming you live so close!
There are so many fish enthusiasts in Queensland, I'm jealous

Lol, Abbie, yes you're right, only in our area, max 15 min with the car we have 10 (!) fish stores
and also quite a few Aquarists Clubs where we can share info, experience, exchange plants, fish, etc
Have a look at this website, lol

That's not too bad either... and I keep seeing more shops, only last week I realized therre is one pet shop just next to our Woolworth in the local shopping centre. OK, they supply more dry goods, no variety of different fish, only bettas... but hey, so gorgeous, but not as brilliant as the betta at fishchick.
Most shops here are the small, privately owned ones with very, very good and healthy fishies and we've got the 3 bigger chains like Petbarn, Petstock and Best Friends.
